Celica Engine Swap

I have a 2003 Protege5 with the 2.0L and the auto tranny. I've been trying to decide what could be done to increase my performance. I think that the car is underpowered and would like to remedy this. I also dont' want to completely kill my gas mileage.

Anyways, I was talking a with a friend and he suggested that I see how hard it would be to put a Celica 1.8L engine with the 6-speed tranny into my Protege5.

Has anyone tried this yet or have any ideas that would help?

Are there any other mods that could be done to my car to increase its performance?

Why would you want a Toyota motor in a Mazda anyway?

it CAN be done with some time and money. if you want the best bang for your buck for power, look into getting a turbo for your existing motor.
