cams for 1.6..help
hi, need some help here. Can anyone advice if the cams from a mx-3 b6ze engine is able to fit into the protege zmde engine? both have the same displacement, bore and stroke so it looks like a fit on paper. can anyone help to confirm this?

I would contact your local mazda dealership and have them cross reference the parts to see. Why would you want to do this when you could have your cams re-ground or possibly purchase performance cams?

well...the problem is that there is no reliable cam grinders ard my region, no performance cams available yet for this engine... its juz so hard to find performance parts for 1.6 zmde engine, thats y i have to resort to using parts from other engine.. i think the engine sucks in terms of performance upgrades available..
the local dealer haven not replied...makes me wonder if they know anything at all...

I wouldn't be afraid to ship the cams off for work. I've had to send stuff to Crower in Cali before, but I trust those guys.
I doubt there will ever be a surge of performance parts for your engine considering the 2.0L is the smallest mazda motor now---next to the renesis.
If you're looking for more performance i'd suggest a nice aftermarket turbo. check www.wagnermotorsports.net On their projects page they have a section for some guys 99 1.6L protege...the turbo made something like 120hp over stock...i think thats what I remember.

MacDaddySlo told me that the cams from the 1.5 liter ZL-VE cams will swap right into the ZM-DE 1.6 liter. Corksport is selling them on their site. You could always get a head package from Gude. You send them the parts to get p & p and they send everything back, including your old cams reground. But the price is a bit steep though.
