Battery Light, Check Engine Light, Came on with new intake??? What Do I do??

Hey, I just installed my ebay intake?!?!?! And the check engine light and the check battery light came on. The litle sensor thing doesnt fit in the hole on the tube, how do I fix that??? I am machanincaly retarded. IS THAT THE BIG PROBLEM?? If I fix that will both of the lights go away? And is it okay for me to drive with them on?

Sorry I sound retarded, Just want to make sure.
Thanks

the sensor does fit in the rubber grommet, you just have to gently push it in. After that, disconnect the negative terminal on your battery for a few hours to reset the ECU, reconnect and go!

I pushed it really hard, the sendor is like 5 times to big?? I think i may just be retarded. Will this make all the warning lights dissapear?

Is there a way to make hole bigger?

walight01 April-8th-2003 09:09 PM

r u sure you putting it in the right hole. the CEL and battery light is b/c your sensor lost signal for a sec with the car on. just unplug the batter for about 5 min and then you will be set to go. if you broke the sensor, thats 40-60 part depending on where you take it.

There is only one hole on the intake tube. I think anyways. Yes only one hole, I just dont get it? I hole has the rubber gasket thing and it has a hole about half that size, the sensor is the size od the whole rubber gasket. I wish i were a mechanic. anyonther suggestions?? The hole is on the end with the filter, right? Yes, and its about 3 inches from the little black box in the middle of the intake? I think i am there? right???????????

Are you sure you got the RIGHT eBay intake?

hotprotege2002 April-8th-2003 09:21 PM

YES everything fits perfect, except that one little hole. its the same one you got, in the picture.

walight01 April-8th-2003 09:24 PM

does it look like this. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...b/fce8eec8.jpg

hotprotege2002 April-8th-2003 09:28 PM

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats the one.

Will it hurt to drive my car with those warning lights on??

Okay, now that we have determined what it is, whats the solution??

hotprotege2002 April-8th-2003 09:39 PM

Hey, does it matter that mine is a protege, and not the p5?? the auction said it was just for the PROTEGE. is there a difference or are they all they same???

walight01 April-8th-2003 11:33 PM

do you have the 2.0L protege? you can drive with the light on. here what you do. unplug your battery, then take off your filter and stick the sensor in the filter, then put the filter back on the pipe. the wires from the sensor will come out where the filter meets the pipe. then reconect the battery and if the CEL stays on then you have a problem

Sounds like a ghetto solution to me...

I dunno, but just a word of advice, when you are trying to reset the ECU, you don't need to have it unplugged TOO long, but press the brake pedal for a few seconds while it's off. :)

If the hole is too small make it bigger...

and if you're going to stick the sensor in the filter, don't forget to plug the hole... ;)
