Auto Transmission mods

Are there any mods for the auto transmission itself on the 3rd gen, like a shift kit or stall converter or something??????????

those are for focuses not proteges unless there is something im unaware of.

Rism April-16th-2005 11:12 PM

both trannies are identical

Roddimus Prime April-17th-2005 12:21 AM

they are VERY similar but not identical. There is a huge thread discussin the differences between the focus tranny and the protege tranny. I think MacDaddy knows a good bit about them.

Here's the rules though....

use good fluid (synthetic with a high tolerance for heat...i.e. redline)

keep up line pressure (valve body)

run a small tranny cooler to lower temps.

so theres no shift kits or anything?

Rism April-17th-2005 05:47 PM

what do u mean by "shift kit"

import_tuner19 April-17th-2005 05:51 PM

a thingy you put in the thingy to make it shift better :tooth:

Rism April-17th-2005 07:41 PM

those would be valve bodies and lentech sells them for around 350$

import_tuner19 April-17th-2005 08:07 PM

yeah but im not 100% sure if they fir our cars or not id have to ask macdaddy he knows alot about this sort of thing

Rism April-17th-2005 08:12 PM

I asked macdaddy he didnt know much at all. The site lists the products are for the

4F27E/FN4A-EL
Focus/Protege

So if for some reason it didnt fit (even though im sure it will) you could return it.

import_tuner19 April-17th-2005 08:20 PM

Ok, thanks a ton, their site says extremely similar to proteges so there must be some slight difference

Have any of yall used the Trick Shift synthetic that B&M sells? I have heard it is good but not sure.

Rism April-18th-2005 08:41 AM

i use redlne D4 ATF and it works great

A 'shift kit' BACK IN THE DAY consisted of a few ball bearings and a new gasket for the valve body to change when/how hard the tranny shifted.

They work. :camaro: My 72 Impala w/ 350 and the turbo-hydro350 could 'catch second' (albeit a small bark! ;) ) after the kit. I was well pleased as a pimply BIg Country Pimp in my jacked-up (with coil sping spacers) primer-black 8-track playing 'Boston' with a 'booster/EQ' putting out 10%THD... sigh.

Is ti worth it for our cars? Prob'ly not. Spend the dough on engine mods. (My $.02 worth...)
