No CEL/MIL;) yet...*knocks on wood*

I don't really have any more $$ to put into it right now anyway, except maybe for some springs to give the Phantom that aggressive stance it needs! LOL

Two questions if they aren't too prying.

What was the total cost, parts and install.
Could you provide a butt dyno estimate of what each mod was the most noticable when it was done? (This obviously doesn't apply if you did them all at once)
Stocker.
Thanks

my question is are you using o2 sensor defeaters or are the sensors just not hooked up or what???only reason i am asking is i really want to do the custom header, but if i don't need a cat to keep the cel/mil off than i'm not gona spend the money on buying one.(i don't care about the legal aspects of it)

Yeah, I was wondering about that too, How did you manage to bypass the O2 sensors? Also, how was the header's fitment, alot of modification or no?

First off, the cams seemed to make the biggest difference. For the money, it seems like the best mod short of a power adder. It pulls much stronger in the higher rpms and 4th gear seems useful for acceleration. The long tube headers were really not worth the expense and effort, but I wouldn't say they were useless. I think the true value of the headers have yet to be found. As power levels increase, the headers will show their true worth. :bt:
*The headers were also a major pain to install because there were several unexpected modifications including welding, cutting, drilling, and bleeding!*

As for the CEL/MIL, most of the problems can be avoided by spacing the o2 sensors farther apart. Since the header had no provision for a second o2 sensor, we determined that extending the wiring harness and moving the second o2 sensor just forward of the front cross-member might prevent the light. So far it has been proven correct. The EGR was also disconnected for the install. We fully intend to remedy these emissions issues before driving on public highways. Neither seems to have caused any ill effects.

Cost:
headers-$312 shipped
cams-$347 shipped
o2 bung-$7
misc. hardware-$5
labor-the pain of marriage;) (hubby and friends did it)

Some day we'll be glad that we did it! The BLING factor is nice!

Here are some pics of the engine bay before headers:

I was going to do a full write-up on this install for those that are interested. Post here if you think it would be helpful.

dewey January-31st-2003 06:33 PM

Yes! Write up everything.

Phantom Cruiser January-31st-2003 07:24 PM

Okay! I'll get the man (not The Man) to write-up what they did and we'll either post it in this forum, or post the link if it's really large.

Thanks!

Karen

I'd love to see a write up on the cams. That seems like a very cost effective mod. How many man/hours of labor are involved?
