At last

Just want to say i got the 2nd gen protege at last. This only after my brother crash my mx-3 into a tree. Got it at a good price but the only problems i had with it is when driving at low speed the steering wheel tends to rattle. Does anyone have any problem with this.

vkyolv March-21st-2002 10:13 AM

check yer tires

Kai March-21st-2002 11:55 AM

yeah i've done that
and there was nothin wrong with it

Identity_X March-21st-2002 12:10 PM

what about when you're going a little faster ???
does it get worse ?

Kai March-21st-2002 01:10 PM

thats the part i don't understand, after i hit 60km, theres no more problem

Identity_X March-21st-2002 01:29 PM

does it rattle a lot or not that much ???
if you let it go would the car go in a straight line ???

Kai March-21st-2002 01:37 PM

well it goes reasonably straight, though slightly a bit to the left

Identity_X March-21st-2002 01:42 PM

I am not sure what it could be but check the steering wheel itself,
tighten it ........then jack up the car and look at the axles and cv joints and shit like that.......

go to a road where there is absolutely no holes and shit and see if it does it there........maybe the roads suck where you live....:dunno:

tonight I'm gonna ask I guy I know to see what he says.....
I'll let you know...

thanks for ur help by the way. I'll try ur advice later on.

mazdaspeedwest March-21st-2002 02:51 PM

possible causes:

- oddly worn tires, or defective tires
- alignment (caster, toe, camber)
- wheels not balanced
- Cv half shafts
- rack and pinion steering
- loose steering wheel (doubtfull if it's never been removed, but since it's used anythings possible)
- worn bushings (control arms, strut mounts, etc)
- worn strut(s)

your too nervous, clam down :D :D

Maybe your rims are bent

wheelguruuu March-21st-2002 04:13 PM

rule out

you can rule out tire & wheel balance since it goes away after 60. you should really take it to a shop or a pro and have them check out the steering and suspension parts for wear! Bearings, axles, thing along those lines. also if you run your hand along your tire front to back and you feel rough edges either way you have or have had poor alignment. or your struts have or have been blown

Maz94Protege March-21st-2002 06:11 PM

Check and make sure ur tires are balanced and aligned. u might jus need a small adjustment or alignment done. i need an alignment cause when i go 60mph+ the car shakes in front end a bit!
