so which in the long run is a better buy.. lowering springs... or coilovers.. which has the better presentation, and durability.. thats my real concern..

how much were those lowering springs?

Pigeon November-7th-2002 11:37 PM

well, in the loooooooooong run....

because the coilovers have a treaded portion, you gotta worry bout that corroding with like salt and road grime and everything...
they will become harder to adjust as time goes on

springs usually fit better, because u just remove one and replace with another...

springs offer the best compromise with handling and comfort....

but coilovers offer the best in ride height
coilovers are generaly stiffer than springs
and when u have them ur tempted to go too low and bottom out ur car and hit ur bumper and shit on the ground...

but i kinda want coilovers, im just worried about having no suspension travel...
bruce was saying that he had only like an inch and a bit of suspension travel with the coils...

and the spring on the coilovers was STIFF

so if that the case i cant get them, but im going to research more...

dafoo21 November-14th-2002 10:29 PM

does anyone have the exact or near measurements that would bring the wheel well (sp*) as close to the tires as possible but still be safe?

and i was under the impression that if i get springs i should get struts too, would i need anything else?

and im hearing good and bad things about the GC... i hear that u get a squeeky sound going over bumps, etc... anyone know the quality of the arospeed coils? if i get coils, what else should/would i need to get? and what brands offer threaded coils?

sorry for all the questions but i dont want a shitty ride

Pigeon November-15th-2002 01:10 AM

dont get arospeed, get the GC they are a company that specializes in only suspension....

apparently with proper installation, you dont get squeaks
make sure u call ground control, tell them ur situation and they will tell u what spring rates to get so u dont get a shitty ride
and u need new struts, but apparently only certain ones fit with the GC coils..

i wouldnt worry bout the wheel touching the fender, becuase if u are conerned bout ride quality, when its that low it will have a horrible ride....

and ur oil pan wont last long either

dafoo21 November-15th-2002 07:27 AM

awesome answer!

Pigeon November-15th-2002 10:21 AM

is ur car a 2000?

cause ur in the 1995-1998 section...

maybe other companies make coilovers for ur car that are respectable too...

for the 1995-1998, only weapon r (shit) arospeed (shit) and GC (good) make coilovers for our cars

dafoo21 November-15th-2002 12:09 PM

ooops

yea, it is a 2000, lol... i just did a search and this thread came up but im safe with GC?

Pigeon November-16th-2002 01:06 AM

well, ive researched them quite a bit, and im going to get them along with good struts

but just give them a call man, ask for frank, he will explain everything to you thourghly

you tell him ur situation and he will suggest spring rates for u

In the long run Springs will always beat out coilovers , but in the short run coilovers are cool (but frigin annoying) .. I will be honest with you and tell you like it is ,,, ....
coil overs ,, wheather groundcontrol , arospeed , or weapon R ....
RIDE LIKE SHI@ ...... and that is just straight being honest ... you will get nice handeling and nice looks ,, you car will frigin get looks for days ,, people will complement you cause your car is so low and has that stance that everyone wants ,,, but every single frigin day you will pay for it when you hit a bump or something uneven in the road that upsets your suspension ... and your car decides it wants to change lanes ..... weather you want to not lol ....

I can also tell you that the damn things will kill whatever shocks you have on the car in 1/5 (HALF) the time of that they should have lived .... even if you have the mazdaspeeds , wich are stronger that factory , don't get me wrong yes they are, but still the coils will take there toll on them ,, believe you me .......

If you live in an area that has very smooth roads, unordinarily like florida , then I say go for it cause there you can get away with no damn shocks on your car ,,.... but it states like new york , new jersey and philly ,,, it's a wrap ,,, .... forget ..
so make your choice wisely , as you will have to live with your girl hittling you in your head and what not like I did and screaming how much she hates your damn car when she is trying to get some sleep on the way back home from getting her back twisted ,, hahahha:D

so make the right choice guys
Bruce

lol...

see bruce, i read a lot of reviews, and everyone knocked the weapon r's because theyre springs were too tight, and theyre whole system wasnt engineered that great......

so i think it varies in brand

i have a friend with a civic with ractive coilovers and the car rides great
im jealous

even though i thought ractive would be complete shit
theyre actually pretty damn good

pro2ndgen November-17th-2002 02:06 PM

Their's another bad side on coil-overs.
If you live where their's winter, snow and in the same way, salt on the roads.
The coil-overs will jam in calcium and you'll have to unjammed them in spring. Unless your ride is a show car that never gonna see winter. That's one reason why I got H&R.

Plus at 1.3" drop and KYB GR-2, trust me, it's stiff enough for the shitty roads in Quebec and it doesn't convert your ride in a snow tractor...something to think about.;)

new2game323 January-7th-2003 02:02 AM

So I'm a little more interested in the whole winter driving thing. I live in Northern Maine where we get a good 20' of snow per year, so it's pretty shitty driving. But with the 98 Pro's it seems like there's way too much black showing in the wheelwell, so I want to go with a set of 15's and keep the same speedo rating, but I want to get rid of all the black in the wheelwell. What would be good for an "all-season" lowered set-up, (Coilovers?, Struts?, Springs?).

Pigeon January-7th-2003 04:30 PM

lowering springs about 1.3 - 1.7
and good condition shocks
but they dont need to be adjustable or anything

i got 1.7
and mine is perfectly fine in the snow
i live in hamilton ontario canada

I just lowered mine. I got intrax 1.75" of corksport.com. its one of the best mods i have done yet... the intrax springs ride great but still provide great track suspension. combine with my front and back strut bars, my car handles like a dream

What year is your pro, and how did you install your rear strut bar?
I am currious because I bought one for my DX, and I could not install it because of the design of the car. What brand the rear strut bar? Ractive?
