need to be lower
 

I'm wondering what is the best way to lower my 97 pro? Should I go springs or coilover kits? and i dont want a (waste of time and money) 1.3" drop or cut springs. I found some coilovers called Dropzone but dont know what product is quality wise. They go from 0-4" drop, around what i want. someone hook me up:smoke:

i heard of one with a 5" drop. can you get hydro for 2gen or would you have to custom it? also i found some b+g extreme lowering springs that go 2.4", which would probably be enough, for $201 on corksport but in cdn thats like double.:tear: maybe ajust. coilovers?

our cars use struts , wich are not like shocks on Honda's , so they wont let the car drop , like honda's , but then to be honest the front of the protege, does not have much travel and when lowered bottoms out very easy , wich you have to be carefull off,... I used coilovers at one point and it was almost maybe a 3" drop or so and there was like no travel under there and to be honest the car rode like the next version of shit .... so I do think you should be careful with that..... uhhh ,.. ground controls are pretty good quality from what I hear ... I don't know if the BGsprings really will drop 2.4 cause the protege suspension and struts really would not allow it ....

I have seen the Dropzones' on ebay. I am lowered 4 inches and love it. I think my P5 rides a lot stiffer, but I can corner like I'm on rails:) Good luck finding something good, but it can be done. Later

It's just enough confortable, stick too the ground and give you some amazing control without botomming out everywhere...specially here in Quebec...:mad:

would a 1.5" drop with those dropzone coil overs be good and still offer a somewhat comfortable ride still?

coilovers , the ones that just slide over the shocks, ride like crap on stock struts, unless you have adjustables, you will be bouncing and all types of crap ,,... I really don't care for them much less would I push the limits of a car with them on ,,.... know the full coilover set with threaded shocks , that is a different story

ok...now someone help me for being stupid but I thought all coilovers were adjustable. That is why I thought they were called coilovers...other wise they would just be springs right??????? ALso who makes a set of threaded coilovers. Are Ground Control coilovers threaded or not??? Also after reading all the stuff yall have said...what is the cheapiest but yet most effiecient way to drop a car?????

GC coilovers are excellent quality, and rather cheap too ( yes, they are threaded)...
...I believe Dropzones are guaranteed not to sag at all...

...If you lower the car, definitely get aftermarket shocks...not sure if they make if for the protege's, but KYB's AGX gas shocks are really nice. Adjustable too.

I personally have the KYB AGX..and a set of Eibach Sportlines springs on my car ( 92 mitsu eclipse). If i had a chance to do it again, I would have gotten a set of coilovers instead of the Sportlines

You must make a lot of many to say that ground control is cheap!!! Cause I don't know about you but 400 is a lot money!!! especially for some coilovers... Everyone tells me they are good but man I dont' have money just flowing out my butt!!!! Ummm by the way did you have a pro or want a pro. Cause I find that odd that you have an eclipse..but on a pro site!!! Just curious...

I just think that compared to other companies, like B&G, Red, and Tein....Ground Control is a bit more affordable.

...by the way, my roomate is the owner of a Protege, and pointed me in the direction of this forum. So I figured i'd learn a little about the pro's

i have the intrax 1.8 lowering springs and they ride nice...only shitty thing is im on stock busted ass shocks...i need to replace the shocks soon!

right now im riding on apex 1.7 inch
they ride perfect, they are smooth, and the car handles awesome
i would have preferred at bit lower, however i measured with my car against the curb and if i lowered it anymore, i would be smacking my rad support and probably my oil pan....
going very low is not cool unless u dont mind having the bottom of ur car hit the road when u go over bumps and irregularities

and even if i got coilovers, i wouldnt drive with the car any lower than it is right now...

i would just like the adjustability of raising it in the winter

and if i were to get coilovers, i would get the GC ones
especially after the positive reviews people give of them, and the fact that GC lets u choose which spring rates u want, or u could tell them ur situation and they will decide whats best for you

I went out and got 16" TSW's. and now i want to lower my ride.. I don't want to complicate things, just to drop my car. I like the sounds of pigeons.. my car is not going to be winter driven, so i don't have to raise it back up.. Where did you get your springs in ontario? i am too in ontario.. actually in toronto during the week.. your car looks low in the pic.. I think it would be the perfect height..

the only complaint that i have about lowering springs compared to coilovers is that the seem to lower the rear of the car a bit more than the front...
but which ever brand you get, that seems to happen to 2nd gen proteges
ive looked at many pics of cars with lowering springs and they all do it...

i was actually thinking of selling the springs on my car because i am considering going for a full suspension setup in the summer with the Ground control coils, the mazda speed struts, stainless steel brakelines, and front and rear strut tower braces...

this height is perfect for summer, but not good in winter when we have lots of snow so id like to be able to raise it up

if you werent in a rush to get them, i could sell you mine...
i got them last september, and i have the warranty still
