Increased power for 96 1.8

I'm looking for some ways to squeeze a little more juice out of my 96 Protege ES (1.8). At one point, I was intrested in looking for a super/turbocharging kit and may consider it later. But for now I'm looking for something simpler & cheaper.

Looking for suggestions on air intake, exhaust systems (fortunately my existing exhaust needs to be replaced soon anyway) and little easy things like spark plugs & wires. I'm hoping to get the hp up around 140-150, but would definitely appreciate more torque along the way.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated. I've gone through mods with my VW, so I'm familiar with the process but not the specifics for my Protege.

Thanks in advance!!

Well, for the 1.8L BP, you're not even going to touch 140hp (at the wheels) with only intake system and exhaust system mods. The only way you can even attempt to reach that would be new cams ( a number of people can jump in and provide info on where to get cams ), adjustable cam sprockets, header, new pistons, overboring, advanced timing, port & polishing the head, shaved head, heavier valve springs and stand alone engine management system.

I'll be doing some of these options to my BP. I don't know when I'll finish building the engine, but I'll dyno it once I'm done and have it in the car. I'll then post that dyno sheet.
