Boricua - that is the air temp sensor. Do what I told you previously. Before you slide the filter on, put the sensor inside the filter, and then put the filter on the pipe. Tighten it, and reset the ECU.

ok, so you're sayin i slip that wire into the back of the filter(where the filter meets the pipe) before i tighten? now would this hurt the wires since they are being squeezed in between the filter and pipe, or is that ok?

Thats exactly what you do, and no it should not hurt the wires, unless you are really crazy about tightening it up.

well i went to a few auto parts stores and i asked about putting a filter, like a K&n one on the stock pipe and they said you can't do it because A) in order for the filter to be attached the pipe needs to be metal and B)the K&n filters all have a different diameter or somthing so it may not fit. personally i think its BS. i just want to put the damn thing on already. i mean, WTF!!

You certainly can, because that is what I did on my car. Right now, I just have a cone filter connected to stock pipe: here is a pic.

One thing though, about air temp sensor. Make sure you dont leave it in the engine bay, and see if you can slide it inside the cone filter before you tighten it on. This is on 97-98 models only, unfortunately, the intake on 95-96 is slightly different.
What's this about an intake air temp sensor on 97-98 models?? Is this just for the 1.5l I'm assuming?

My 96 1.8 doesn't have a temp sensor on the airbox.
But I have an extra vaccum hose, wich 97-98 don't have.

KIA69: By the way, Nice intake!

its been a while guys. i just got a quick question. does anyone know the exact size (diameter) of the stock pipe; is it like 2.5 to 3 inches or something? i've been buzy and never got the chance to work on it a couple of months back. i'm just gonna buy a k&n cone filter and put it on there, but i need to measure it. aight peace.

just buy any old aftermarket filter, it doesn't have to be k&n.
