Wait a minute, you got a 1.5??
Maybe thats why. I'm not sure what the redline is for them, but for the 1.8 its 7000.

midnightblue97,

Do you have a 1.8? Your sig has says it's an LX. Did you transplant the motor?

no thats what it came with.

Can someone shed some light on this? LX's have 1.8L engines? I always understood that only the ES did.

i would stick with the factory suggested viscosity of oil all the time...

just run synthetic if u like to rev high
and do frequent changes, making sure the level does not drop

i have had my almost at 8000 one time, i thought i shifted to second when i slammed it into neutral

it scared the shit out of me, but the car runs fine still

i would never EVER do that on purpose, because that horrible for the car
but i dont think it got much damage because it was there for like one tenth of a second

and btw, the 1.5's rev nicely, mine doesent sound like anythings getting damaged
it sounds great at redline

i think maybe in canada the LX's come in 1.8. the models have different meanings than in the US, like Lx, SE and whatnot. and about the car, my LX RL's at 6500 rpm, but i'll see.is there anything i can do to the engine that maybe would make it safer to redline?

there is really no need to redline the car ,,, all you have to do , is shift at like 5500 to 5800 rpm ,, after that you will notive that you are pretty much wasting time ...... the car makes good power in the 3000 to 5700 or so power band , so that is the area you should stay in ,.. reason I know this is from driving my car hard and fealing out the shift points .. Also it is almost to the point where I don't even have to look at the tach cause I can tell when to shift my car ,, and keep the engine at its most optimum point ...

see the reason i redline, is because it sets the engine up for a good rpm in the next gear...

because he is right, after 6000, ur pretty much done
but if u redline, the next gear is waiting in the powerband

crazygoat November-17th-2002 08:18 PM

but if u redline, the next gear is waiting in the powerband
yeah, shiftin near the redline seems to put the next gear right in the powerband instead of a few revs short

Redlin

I have a 96' USA model ES. It's redlined at 7000, and I drive it over 6000 almost every day! That's they way I drive ;) I have NEVER had to do a major repair on the car in seven years other than replace the muffler after the connecting pipe rusted through at the rear joint. I love the sound of this car at full throttle - that's one big reason I bought it in the first place. It'll hit the rev limiter at a bit over 7500 in first gear, and the #@!*#@ engine controls shut down fuel flow at 5500 in fifth. This only lets me get a bit above 115 MPH - but the car is still accelerating! Is there a modified engine controller available for this engine/model? It seems to be much rarer than the Gen 1 LX 1.8 or the Gen 3 ES models.

I've had mine to about 7500 or so but didn't know that is where it is rev limited at. Yeah mines limited to about 190kmh (or 115mph) I don't know if there is a chip for our cars or not. I'd think that its not really worth the money at least in my case for the amount of times that I'll be going that fast compared to the cost and lack of a real performance increase, though I would really like to see if I coul hit 220kmh on my speedo.

Pigeon November-22nd-2002 04:11 PM

ive been up to 170 with my 1.5

but i ran out of room
it was still accelerating

pollito14 November-22nd-2002 05:26 PM

I know you're talking about km/h 'cause you live in Canada but specify for everyone else

Pigeon November-22nd-2002 10:22 PM

but just saying 170 makes me sound so much cooler....

j/k, ill specify next time
