Warning To All Members Buying Intakes Off Of Ebay
WARNING TO ALL MEMBERS BUYING INTAKES OFF OF EBAY...
apparently the mass air meter is very sensitive so don't go tugging or pushing at it over aggressively or this will happen to you.
Bought an intake filter and adapter off of ebay. for $10 u get an adapter that doesn't fit, fitler that barely fits due to it's large size. installed the new intake but the car would not start. went back to stock intake, the air would not flow.did adjustments and got it to start and run but when gas was let go, it would die automatically. will getting a new mass air meter fix this whole thing and get my car running? sure it is not any problems with sensors that lay around the tube area? any suggestions, this is my only car and ireally need help.

i'm pretty sure the mass air meter is busted because even with all the stock parts back on the car is messed up. i dont see how leaving the resonator on would affect the way the car started though, its just a sound deadener. . .

This isnt because of the filter. U coulda jus installed it incorrectly or had a bad VAF to begin with. THe adapter is so easy to conect and the filter fits right on perfectly....
Make sure the VAF cable/wire is securly attatched to the VAF, that could be ur problem. If the connecter is damaged, u neend a new VAF, if their is corrosion or the metal prongs are a bit bent , u need a new VAF.
I jus dont see how the INTAKE adapter and filter can hurt ur car. Havent heard of it happeneing yet!

the adapter was at first could not fit into the air flow meter. i had to file it down to fit. the thinking it is the air flow meter, but im still taking it to the shop and see if any sensors are wrong or i stumbled onto a potentional problem with distrubitor, or anything else. ive called places that sell OEM parts (new or used) and im getting under $200. well that will be the price i'll be paying for this. not to undermine mazda, but they have really made this installing of intake complicated. if you look at how civic is engineered, it is less complex. the air flow meter is at the end, and does not need to be removed for installing an intake. i do not see that much technology in the 94 protege. i doubt it i am going to any modifications with the engine on my protege. i truly just lost any motivation.

all i want to say is that you get what u pay for. just as simple as that. installing an intake is easy as heck, but you have to get a right dimension to make it fit. those ebay intakes filter are not made for the protege, go to KN and find a custom one to put in.

No probs here!!
I had no probs with my Cone filter from Ebay, I bought it recently for my '94 DX and sure it was a tight fit, but it ran 10X better than before with the stock Air box installed.. I just bought another Protege('90 LX) and I am gonna purchase another cone filter/adapter from ebay for this one also..
Like Maz94Protege said, you could have forgot to plug the Vaf Plug back in, I made that mistake at fisrt, I was like WTF??
Double check everythign, cuz those filters work, and improve just about everyhting on the car, as far as I noticed anyways...

the intake and adapter didn't really cause my problems. i think some way in installing i caused a problem. but seriously i would really recommend not using the filter and get a K&N should buy ONLY for adapter

make sure you leave the resonator box ON (that's the square box on the intake pipe after the MAF sensor) or the car will not start.
Has anyone taken the resonater box off?

Your doing the same thing with the filter attaching to the intake hose pipe or whatever you want to call it. The air is coming in the intake pipe and go into the valve cover. Your using that big thing on the end you call a Filter again to acheive the same thing as having a smaller size filter stand alone on the crankcase filter/valve cover hose fitting.

fixed my car, finally working. i decided to get take the MAF and open it up (giving one last chance to fix it) saw the damage i made and tried to put the pieces back. put it back in, and it starts. normal driving too, no lag. if anyone is plannig to install an intake BE VERY CAREFUL OF THE OPENING OF THE MAF. ANY LITTLE ALTERATION UP WILL MESS IT UP. anybody also having this problem, try to like open up the maf and look around before like go buying a new one. and also, my friend told me to be careful with the switch to maf cuz forcing a car to start in a way might mess up the computer. this complicated thing he told me about signals sent to the computer from the maf might be bad and will mess up the computer. just giving everyone info so they won't make the same mistake
