Has any Pro'er attempted or considered treating the pacesetter exhaust system with an anti-rust chemical such as alodine? I have used this myself on aircraft and it is accepted by inspection, and the FAA. If this stuff will stop/prevent rust on aircrafts shouldn't we be able to use them on our pro's??? I would consider pacesetter a decent system if it would withstand rust... What do you guys think? Can this system be treated? You really can't beat $145 for a CB system...Just my $.02!

i really dunno bout the rust treatment...
but as far as the pace uh..setter, i might tend to recommend having a custom one made because:
1) the flanges didn't match up on mine; i couldn't have installed it myself - it had to be cut and welded...
2) after driving with it some now, the sound is allright BUT when pushed its like something in themuff is loose; it 'rattles' - sort a a bother
3) Jesse put a custom 2" on his LX - maybe that would be a better choice, esp fo a DX

after i ordered my pacesttr, i got a quote of $250for a REAL CUSTOM MANDREL BENT exhaust from a muffshop bout 4 hrs away that actually has a mandrel bending machine.
if you could find a shop with THE machine, that maybe best way to go.

so... i'm ok with the setup, the price IS good;
but just wanted to give some views....

Help...I can see the yellow brick road anymore, where did it go??? Oh, there it is 3 feet below us under all that damn SNOW! Yup, just snowed Friday.

Yeah, I have considered having a custom system made, but I keep getting outragous estimates.
I had no idea the PS system was designed so bad that it won't even bolt on correctly. Oh well, I'll keep searching. Thanks guys.

Jesse,

I agree. 2(1/4) is way to big for the 1.8, hell the early 90 V8's ran 2 and a quart. in stock form. The largest I would go is 2" down to a universal DTM muffler. I'm going to get more estimates and go from there.

Alodine can handle extreme temperatures, it actually soaks into the metal. The catch is that it must be primered. The aircraft industry uses it on the all parts of the plane, I have used it on exterior skins which are exposed to the most extreme elements. The temperature that planes endure are far more than what cars will ever see. Planes are exposed to ambient temperatures due to the amount of time they sit on the ramps out here, that means during the summer it's 105 on the outside of the plane, but 125 on the inside I can only imagine what metal is exposed to 40k feet off the ground. There is so much corrosion and other structural factors once you get up that high so road salt shouldn't be a problem. How ever I have decided to go custom on my CB system.

On the contrary

If you don't have access to any mandrel shops, like me, a 2.25" system is a must. You need to do something to compensate for the crimping that occurs at the bends. I have a 2.25" system, and my 1/4 mile time dropped .3 sec, just with the exhaust mod. I don't have any dyno charts, but thats around a good 10-12 HP at the wheels.
BTW, before I got the cams, my bottom end was not compromised at all with 2.25".
