Body Kit Solution

Hey guys, whats goin' on? Well i was going to order a bottom lip for a honda civic and put it on the 'ol pro, so i took off my bumper and cut out the grill? (so i can put mesh in), and to my amazement at my job (workin' at a body shop) i found an ol '91 Acura Integra front bumper. So, i said what the hell, and put it on my car. Well it FITS!!!!!! I had to take off the bumper support and all that is holding it up right now is four screws, but if someone will post pics for me i can send them to you. I'll go ahead and pu the grill back on so you can see what it looks like, but i think i have solved one of our problems, and giving us more versatility in body kit designs. I'll try and get the pics tmrw, so if someone would like to post 'em for me just let me know if not i guess u guys can take my word on it.

email me the pics, and i'll post them for you. :D

Tweeaks March-6th-2003 12:41 AM

Allright i can do that i just took the pics so i'll e-mail them. The only problem is the bumper support has to be taken off, thus causing the bumper to sit about 1 1/2-2" low, :( but if somebody was really serious about doing this then you could take the time to fabricate it, or just custom make a bracket for the bumper. I do advise anyone that is going to try to do this to first get a junked up bumper (prob from a junkyard, but try and get the most scratched up holey piece of shit that you can that still has all the mounting points intact) and first trying to get that bumper to mount up flush instead of spending the 300-400$ for a fiberglass one that you really don't have much room to fuck up on before you have to take it to a shop to repair the fiberglass that you cracked and fubar'd. But any who the pic's didn't come out too well on my camera, and i just cut up the bumper.............I have plans for it. HeHeHe..........well i'm just gonna take about 4 inches off the bottom and custom make a lip for my bumper. So i guess i'll let you guys see those pics later when it's all over with. titocruzsd you have a pm.:D

so what do you guys think?

Tweeaks March-7th-2003 08:47 AM

well.............i would take more pics of it but before i got to see the ones that i took and how crapilicious they were, i allready started cutting up the integra front bumper.....and i don't have another one so.. I cut about 4 inches off of the bottom of the 'teg's bumper and am going to use it as a "lip" for my bumper.;) My car won't be three different colors, i'm gonna paint it first before i put it back on...... i still gotta "mold" the two pieces together.:p

Identity_X March-7th-2003 10:07 AM

I like your paintjob and rims:bt:

Post some pics!

High Body March-7th-2003 10:34 PM

that looks really good... i did the same thing with removing the stock grill and replacing it with mesh... its alot easier to see on the earlier years than it is with my 323 because its soo small of an opening...
what color did you chose to paint your car?? looks really similler to mine, and i love my color (Lexus Matalic Midnight Blue 2002 color) looks HOT in the sun...
also good choice of rims... those rims seem to be "the thing" with mazda owners (especially earlier models p 1+2)
That lip looks good... i want to see what it looks like all finalised... should look good... post more pics soon http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...870_1_full.jpg

itzkcatz March-8th-2003 01:27 AM

Yeah i wanted that lexus blue but u beat me too it. .Jon

acidhorse March-8th-2003 09:31 AM

the blue on the mazda 6 is pretty badass too. there is a Strato blue and Lapis blue and Blue Pacific Mica depending on where you get your 6 from. i was going to use a blue that was on the 89-90 VW Corrado kinda like the 6 blue, but i think im just going with black

Tweeaks March-8th-2003 09:44 AM

Yeah i
ll try to post pics later after i finish the bumper, and get my racing seats in ( they should be here by thursday so....) The color is a midnight blue mica from the 2002 Aston Martin. Yeah i notice that alot of the mazda owners have these its funny. but i allready finished up molding the sides of the bumper together, what we did was screw them together to keep it steady and used an oxy-aceteline torch (welding) and heated up a putty knife then melted the 2 pieces together. We're not too sure how it's going to hold up 'cus we haven't tried anything like this before, but we reinforced the bond with epoxy and we're going to add rivets. so all i gotta do si the middle part of the lip now. I have a question for you guys what would you think of a piece of aluminum going across the bottom lip? like just around it and riveted on, not the whole thing but maybe 2/3 of it???? Let me know cus i might be doing it, but i'm not too sure how well the aluminum is going to stand up before it starts looking ugly and disfigured. Oh by the way with this lip on i only have about 3-4" of clearance from the ground.........hehe oh well later guys.

Tweeaks March-9th-2003 01:21 AM

I got it all molded together now looks good, i gotta go over the epoxy with glazing putty (it's kinda like bondo, but not quite) so i can smooth it all out. I put the bumper on tonight because i went to the drags (ran a 17.77 don't think thats too bad w/ SOHC.........is it?) and man that damn thing scrapes everywhere. it only has about 2" off the ground, a little lower than i anticipated. I think it's just 'cus i put my steelies back on for the races, so after i put on my 17's it should be raised about an inch. Gro the reason the 'teg bumper "sags" is because i had to mount it to the.........bumper support's support? Well, the brackets that the bumper support is bolted onto. if it would have fit around the bumper support than it would sit up there flush; except for the little "something"(at aloss for words) that comes up about an inch or so in the very middle of the bumper at the top. It also sits alittle higher without the grill on there because the grill puts pressure on that "something." Well i should have the bumper done by tmrw or monday. Tito is it allright with you if i send you the finished pics, and u can post 'em for me? Pretty Pretty pls. Oh and one more thing.....does the lip on my car look like the lip on the Pakfieker GTX bumper? I'm too lazy to look it up right now. Nevermind I'll check...........later

Tweeaks March-9th-2003 11:34 AM

Yeah i would go ahead and order one and try to fab it to fit, but right now me and my dad have spent alot of time getting my original bumper to look good with the lip. So i'm just gonna stick with it, and besides that i know for a fact that i'm the only one with this bumper on a pro........well maybe not the only one, but there's a pretty good chance. With the way that it is turning out right now i think that it looks pretty bad ass. I'll go ahead and take pics of it right now so you guys can see the development.
Peace, Grease, and chicken......oh wait nevermind.

mustangjosh67 March-9th-2003 03:46 PM

hey tweeaks, i think the integra front looks great on the pro, good job. also your paint color is beautiful. i have two questions for you. 1. what kind of wheels are those on your car. and 2. this is for anyone who knows how to do this, how do i go about installing the mesh grille in my car? i think that the mesh really looks sharp and would like to do this to my car soon. oh by the way, does anyone know where i can get some mesh cheap? thanks a lot.

High Body March-9th-2003 04:45 PM

Mustang josh..... the rims are motegi mr7 or the ones on my car are Omni Concepts N7 (same damn thing) but his are in a gun metal and mine are silver alloy.... and the way i chose to put the mesh is is all explained on the second page of my link: http://www.cardomain.com/id/highbody/ .... i chose to cut out the factory black mesh crap... but i heard that some people cut the mesh out and used some kinds of tie downs to do it, and there are some people that bent it funny to fit... i think that my way looks most professional, but it depends on what you wana spend and the time you wana spend... i baught my mesh at a erformance shop.... 50.00 for a 1.6x3... but it is the same stuff as gutter mesh you can get at home depot or most house ware stores...

no prob bro. send me the pics and i'll post them ASAP.

Tweeaks March-10th-2003 02:25 AM

High body is right they are the MR7's, and about the mesh; the other day i went to home depot and got a 7'X3' sheet of mesh for around $3.50. I definately wouldn't pay 50 or 30 from Autozone for it. And don't worrry it's not gonna rust. But if you buy from somewhere like Autozone you can have it in different colors. What i did with the grill is cut out the center honeycomb mesh, and traced the shape of the opening on a piece of cardboard. Then cut out the cardboard and bent the mesh around the cardboard to where the mesh would be in the shape of the opening in the grill. Then insert mesh into grill (which is gonna take a few tries to do without bending the mesh into weird shapes that are drastically ugly in the right lighting) and what i did was rivet it on with the mesh that was bent back to the inside of the grill. becareful what size rivets you use, if you even to decide to use rivets, because i cracked the grill in some minute areas from the rivets being to big. The first mesh i put in the grill i just bent around the back of the inside of the grill and it stayed in there perfect.

I don't know if you guys are familiar with the galant front bumper (the one that has the rectangular hole in the middle and the more rounder holes on the sides for the fogs) but i was thinking about putting the side holes on my bumper also but i don't think that there is enough room for them, but i will see because we also have a galant front bumper and i might go ahead and tear it up if it'll look right. But either way it should be done by TMRW night (i'll try to send the pics ASA i paint it)painted and all. but if no pics i'll have em Tuesday. I'm also gonna paint the mesh on the bumper and the grill a gunmetal color, so it matches the exterior theme, and i'm doing the interior in grey/black. I'll get pics of my seats installed and posted after i get 'em. And i'll try to post more pics of the car.

Highbody, this is what i get when i click on your link....We're sorry, we could not find the document that you requested. Please press back on your browser and try another link. Wow i just tried the addy in your sig and it worked, i think its the backslash you added on to the link?

High Body March-10th-2003 01:25 PM

sorry.. that was the short one that use to work... now its being gay... here is the longer one.,.. this will work http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...ee=Mazda%20323

Tweeaks March-13th-2003 01:59 PM

Well guys, I haven't finished it yet, but all i have to do is primer, than paint. I'm not gonna paint it yet untill i finish the rest of the kit. I plan on getting some side skirts offa civic and make them fit, and for the rear bumper i'm not too sure yet, I think i'm just gonna order a lip and mold that on too. If you guys want i can post pics of the bumper as it sits it looks really good (alot better if it was painted tho). I put the mesh in allready and painted the mesh a gun-metalish color along with the grill. So as soon as i can get some batteries for my digital camera i'll take 'em. Oh the reason i'm gonna wait to paint it is 'cus i'm gonna repaint the whole car, the same color. I have a couple of minor dents, and a pretty big one on the right quarter panel from backing into a pole 2 months after i painted it, and on the driver side between the two doors some one hit my car with their door so paint is all chipped off on both doors. Well catch ya later. Oh and off topic i got a $10,000 sponsership from a company called Racer-X Motorsports, they're willing to pay 52 % on retail items, and 52% on labor hours...........so hopefully i'll be getting my KL-ZE put in soon.:D

Looks good! So thats the stock bumper with a custom lip? Great job!

Tweeaks March-17th-2003 03:52 PM

Thanks, yeah stock bumper i'm holding out a little while before painting to see how well it holds up. Maybe i'll have to add more epoxy to re-inforce it 'cus we didn't use any rivets to reinforce it all the way around just in the two side air vent things.

mustangjosh67 March-25th-2003 11:02 PM

hey tweeaks and high body thanks for the help. i had a feeling those were mr7's. i am looking at getting a set of those in silver fom summit racing because they have a pretty decent price. do you guys think that 17's will fit on my car? also highbody, i went to your link, but the second page didn't say anything about how you installed your mesh. thanks again.

acidhorse March-26th-2003 01:43 AM

it's good to know i'm not the only one to "rig" my car. i just put motegi mr17's on and i think they look sharp(kinda want a caddy). need the paint job though. thats in a few weeks. or maybe it was the mr15's. they look like the Ziegen Inperio F15... but cooler

acidhorse March-26th-2003 01:47 AM

and if ya wanna be ghetto you can buy some tight hole chicken wire at menards and make your mesh that way...i know most of us are pretty white trash that way.

Tweeaks March-26th-2003 09:05 AM

Thanks gro, everyone tells me that it came out alot better than they thought it was going to. The color is an Aston Martin color. It's like Blue Mendip Mica I think......not really sure.

Mustang yeah like Gro said the 17's will be fine, the only thing about the MR7's is that they are kinda heavy, but then again if you want a light 17" wheel then they're gonna be kinda expensive.

1ofdfew323 March-26th-2003 08:23 PM

that front lip looks pretty kool!!! the only thing is hopefully when ur front lip scrap it wont crak the bondo/epoxy...Looks good tho...

I did me a 99 Civic S I front lip but i didn't get it off, of a civic y ? well civic front lip is kind of expensive so i modify me a front lip which is made out of polyurethane which mean it wont crack or anything. no modification too all u need is srew in 6 srews then ur ready to go... it looks great looks exactly like the 99 S I and its about 1" so ur car is gonna look more lower...i would like to show the pic here but then i dont have a scanner or a digital camera so i dont have any idea how am i going to show u guys the pic...

Tweeaks April-5th-2003 03:06 AM

Thanks 1ofdfew323 :)

Well the other day a peice finally cracked.:( And then fell off.
It was just the glazeing putty (maybe 4" long 1/2" wide) though so thats good. I'm just gonna sand off the glazing putty and put some more Epoxy, which doesn't crack, useing it in place of the glazeing putty. The only thing is this shit is expensive, and i allready used up Two bottles, one of part A, and one of part B.

I think what u did or ur car is very unique and very creative. About ur idea of getting a civic side skirt i thought i was the only one who thought of that. I use to own 97 ex coupe civic and a 95 civic hatch...Im a Honda guy well was. Anyways im pretty sure i could try to fit one side skirt from a civic to my 323 i'll let u know later on.http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...b/fc644755.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...0/fc644754.jpg http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...c/fc644757.jpg

so here's the custom front lip ......civic si look-a-like

Tweeaks April-5th-2003 03:39 AM

Thanks man, you gonna make me..:crying: j/k. So you figured it out. I'm assuming. Your lip looks good, you got any in better lighting? Any major modifications done to the lip to get it to fit? Are there any air dams in it, or just makes the bumper lower?
Oh, about the civic side skirts, they're too long for the pro by 5 inches, so probably by more on the 323???? Yeah a few of the guys i know have civics, well just honda's
:o . catch ya later.
