I just got my tranny fixed today by a friend of my moms. Well he said he swaped in an lx tranny into my dx, with no modification. I dont really know the guy but he said he would do it all for $425 which is a deal compared to the mazda dealership who wanted $1200+. I was test driving the car with him in it today and it was nice and smooth but i noticed in fifth gear that it made a whistling noise. He said it was because i was at 2grand and it was was an overdrive gear meant for the high way. So i was like ok, he fixed it and i had to get to school in 30mins. I gave him the money and made sure i had his number just in case anything happens.

Do you know if anything this guy said is true? Im not even sure if it is an lx tranny, how could i tell?Does anyone else whistle in fifth gear because it never happened to me befor the fix.

 

Yeah my LX makes the same noise in 5th gear. I'm not exactly sure why it does that but I don't think it is a problem. It is very noticeable in the '88 Accord I'm driving around now... it's pretty annoying.

 

Hit 80 on the highway and tell me what rpm its at should be around 4 ..Jon

Umm... did he change the axles too? I am pretty sure those need to be swapped out for the LX tranny...
