using bp ecu with bpt engine

I tired searching for the term but the search function doesn't like 2 letter word. so i'm being lazy. sorry

Can the bp ecu be used with the bpt engine? if it can, are there any con's?

reason i'm asking is I can get a bpt engine w/o the ecu

ali Vegas April-14th-2003 01:48 PM

can I reprogram the bp ecu for higher psi?

itzkcatz April-20th-2003 10:58 AM

Just curious. Why do u have the lx protege for a daily driver and your gonna throw in a bpt into a dx protege?

UCSBgeek April-20th-2003 11:17 AM

Turboge sometimes has the BPT ECUs for sale, check out the parts for sale section (well duh;))

I'm currently running my gtx engine in my pro lx 93 (1.8l dohc) with the stock ecu but with piggybag for timing and fuel. I went all the way to 15psi and there's no trouble the air fuel ratio his a little rich but who care and the engine doesn't pings or knock. Know if i could just make enought money that change the clutch for a centerforce i could hold it at 14psi but the oem clutch doesn't support it when it gets hot. I used an msd boots retard for the timing an a extra injector control made by sds for the fuel. They had two extra injector on the intake tubing after the turbo it save you a fuel pump has the original pump has enought flow to make it run correctly with the injector of the gtx engine.

The CDN version of the lx has the 1.8 SOHC so i'm keeping it as a daily driver and the DX weight only 2200 with 1/4 full tank of gas so I figure i'm gonna be very very light

Ah makes sense

...wait wait wait...so you guys are telling me that it's possible for me to run the BPT off of my stock ECU for a few weeks untill the HALTEC is in? Someone else please verify this.

I wouldn't be pushing the engine hard or doing any racing untill the HALTEC is in, but I'd like to be able to tune everything else while saving them mulah for the HALTEC.

You need piggyback to run it with the n/a ecu and they cost nearly has much has a full stand-alone.

Yes, but it's generally recommended to get either standalone (which you are) or a GTX ECU. Braden has had plenty of experience with this, I trust his judgement. If you're going to do it, might as well do it right (which you are) :)

atila - by no way am I ripping on you. Back when I was looking into the swap, I asked around and just about everyone said that I might as well plop down the cash on the stand alone or the GTX ecu.

atila April-21st-2003 09:25 AM

Don't worry no harm taken we all take diffenrent road. I was considering when i started the swap to go full stand alone but i had the piggy-bag for way lest then what they where worth so the cost of a stand alone wasn't acceptable for my finance this year, but i plan on going stand alone next year, the finance will be beither then.

You have DX right? SOHC and DOHC ECU's are tottally DIFFERNT.

THere are actually 4-5 diff ecus.

SOHC - Manual
SOHC - AUTO

DOHC- Manual
DOHC- AUTO

GTR - TUrbo ECU (think there is one for auto too....unless its universal)
GTX - TURBO ECU (Also think there is one for auto..unless its universal)

thats from my knowlege. but you can run it on the stokc BP -DOHC ecu, just runs rough from what ive heard and crappy boost level.

Will a AUTOMATIC 1.8 BP DOHC ECU work with a manual tranny? I was told yes by a guy at a wrecker, but I am unsure. Anyone know?

UCSBgeek April-21st-2003 05:21 PM

Not a good idea, I'd say

It doesn't work the other way around, and if this way, then your Check engine light will probably go on and the hold light will probably flash.

If the search function was working I could find you a definite answer!
