Post Survey: How long your clutch last?

Mine's used...I've had it for a few months now. I got it from my brother who had it for three years, since about 140K.

Now, it's on it's last adjustment at 180K. Still got a whole pedal to go before it's gone and I need a new one.

So, I'm wondering how you guys have been doing on clutches. I saw another mk1 Protege with 145k on the original clutch, so I'm guessing Mazdas are good clutches.

I have a 93lx with appx. 98,000 miles on it and I've owned the car for about 5 years now. Have yet to replace the clutch. I have no clue as to if it was fixed/replaced by the previous owner.

When I finally removed the clutch from the car to do the BPT swap. It still looked like it had over 50% of the material on it. I had over 310,000 KM on it when it was taken out.

I have 123,000 on mine and its not giving trouble just heats up if you take the car hard and slips. I just ordered the act clutch from corksport so I should be putting that in this week. I think mazda make some of the most durable stock clutches around.

Almost 200k miles. Hundreds of drag race starts (Pro Solos). Autocrossed since it was 4 months old. Still will light up the tires and chirp 2nd gear. And my GF has been driving the car the last 12k miles.

When I had the engine out at 180k, there was still 70% of the material left on the clutch.

I heard that some Old couple had the car before me in florida and barely drove it .. ..

13 years, ~140K miles, started to experience some slipping within the past week. Lots of racing and taught 2 ppl how to drive a 5sp.

I forgot other clutch abuses.

I let one girl practice with the clutch for about an hour or two. Starting/shifting/stopping/etc forever. Learning how to get the feel of a clutch. I think she put on about 30 miles on, 100 yards at a time.

Used numerous times as a tow vehicle. Pulled many (broken) cars off course at autocrosses. Corvettes, Mustangs, etc. Also pushed a 4000lb VW van up a 7%, 3 mile long grade, from 30-65mph (the van would only do 30mph on its own, loaded with many sets of tires). Why? Because I could.

then what the hell is wrong with my clutch. do i need an adjustment and if so, how do i do it? i had mine replaced about 8 months ago. the mechanic claimed to have even resurfaced the flywheel as a favor to me. but it'll spin going down hill if i really punch it.
i do drive it kinda hard...but i'm no autocross driver or anything like that. i've driven a lot of 5 and 6 speeds and some a lot harder than i've been driving my pro. i was just about to redo the clutch with a partner of mine to make sure it was done right, but it sounds like i may have something else wrong or just need an adjustment. any ideas.

I just hit 200,000km yesterday and I'm not sure how old the clutch is since the car had no service records or anything with it when I bought it, but I'd venture a guess to say its the original clutch since the guy who owned it before me was an old dude and he probably didn't drive it too hard. I bought it with 156,000 km on it.

i just replaced my clutch at 160+k miles...its a crappy *** replacement though, and next year, rather than eat for the first month of college, centerforce stage 2 90% more holding power my tranny also ate itself during a street race at 130 mph...does anyone know of a good aftermarket tranny?

Thumbs up

212,568 miles on original clutch and still counting. Putting in a new bp motor this week. I'll see what I have left then, but never had a problem. Solid driver has a lot to do with it.
