Winter tires: Any advices?

I need to get a set of winter tires for my Protegé, cuzz it will be snowing in a couple of weeks here in Montreal. So what's your advices about winter tires?
Winter is kinda rude around here so i'm looking for some pretty good ones, but i'm also doing a lot of milleages. I spend the whole summer with Marshall winter radial, their were pretty brand new and now look much like slicks. I think they were not ment for 200km highway trips. Anyway, i need some that wont be wornt out next summer, so i could use them next winter.

Thanks!

I have a friend who's been driving around on his Pirelli Winter 210s on his VW GTI. They work well enough for him to have won STS at a recent San Diego event. And they're not bad snow tires, either.

Any one of the new generation of snow tires is pretty amazing. If I lived where it snowed, I'd definitely have a set out in the garage (or the basement).

Here in SoCal, all I have to worry about is how poorly everyone drives when we get 0.01" of rain. Fortunately, most of the rain in SoCal falls at night. What little rain that falls during the day causes enough traffic jams.

Wight, the Toyo G-02 Observe is a very durable winter tire. What it gives away to the Blizzak in the first year, it more than makes up for in years two-six.

Depending on what size you need, I have a set of 185-60-R14 that I'm selling. Granted, I'm in Edmonton, but it shouldn't be too much by Greyhound. I'm asking $100 Canadian for the tires.

As you have a Protege-S, your summer tires / wheels are 13", but the 185-60-R14 was the comparable size used on the GT model.

thanks, but it would cost me a lot to have them shipped here!
