The Wheels, now the Tires
 

well i finally am about to get my wheels, i decided on the moda r3, these are 18x7 and painted silver... for $239 each... very beautiful wheels!

these are goin on my red p5 (duh!, lol) but i need some tires to wrap around these beauties, just dont know what.... i guess im looking at a set of 215/35-18 tires.... perferbally Pirelli, toyo, or dunlop tires.... but please do recommend anything that is good... i want a good street tire for summer and good conditions (i dont need all seasons) that has great handling, can handle high speeds well, very grippy and well im sure you guys know better than me...

I've had great luck with Dunlop. D40m2's on my last car. And a friend has Yokahama AVS Sports on his car. Neither are cheap but great tires.

The BFG Scorcher I just through in there for kicks. Only thing it's good for is leaving pretty colored burnouts. :D

The Falken FK-451 is one of those tires few have heard of, but is a pretty good tire. Good balance of wet and dry traction, looks and price.

The P7000 is good but will wear out quickly. The Supersport is an All-Season tire.

The Nitto NT-555 is so completely unlike the NT450 (that earned the name the No Traction 450), that it's hard to believe they come from the same company. They actually work pretty well in the dry, at the expense of wet traction.

The Toyo T1S is probably the best all-around tire in the group, with excellent wet traction, and good dry traction, but will wear funny if used in a competition setting (like autocross), due to its long, skinny, longitudinal tread blocks.

The Yokohama Parada Spec-2 is too new to know much about. The first-gen Parada was far more an appearance tire than a performance tire. But Yokohama would like you to believe that the new tire has more performance.

Which tire is the best for you. Well, I don't know how much rain you get there in LFN (a friend of mine spent 6 months there Monday through Thursday, commuting from San Francisco, hence the name).

If you see a lot of rain, and you aren't scared by the price, the Toyo would be the top choice. With less rain, and on a budget, I'd give the Falkens a try. The Yokohama is a good choice for the appearance-minded.

Of course, if you want the ultimate performance street tire, and aren't in a hurry ('cuz they won't be out for a few months:)), check out the
Kumho Ecsta MX which is designed to knock the Falken Azenis off the top in Street Tire autocrossing.

I'll call my tirerack rep just to make sure your fitment is sound. If it's a +40mm offset it will not work. I swear.

But I'll call my wholesale rep and check for ya. I got my SSR's as per their reccomendation and they rubbed so I did the measuring myself.

Don't go with the Paradas. Get the Toyo if you can afford to. T1S of course.

Well it is +45 offset and should work great.

If you're interested in the Toyo, I'll hook you up with the wheels mounted and balanced with the tires for ya. I should be able to get a decent price for you. Since Tirerack doesn't carry Toyo, I can source the wheels and get the tires here.

FYI. I'm running on the Paradas on my 18" SSR's so you can stick that finger up yuuuurrrrrr butttttttt!!!! hehe.

I think they're great for aesthetics but they're noisy as hell. Cool on a lexus but we didn't get all that insulation in our sub $20K car.

I've been there and am still running them. IMO. So :the finge right back at ya.
