wheel offset??
 

I may know a lot about cars,but damn,what the heck is the wheel offset??What is it?!?!!
I know my pro has a 4x100 pattern,but 'offset'??:dunno: :confused:

wheel offset.....if you take one of your wheels off...and look at the back where the wheel mounts to your disc/drum.....notice if you measure from that actual mating surface to the edge of the rim its NOT in the exact middle.....this is refered to as the "offset" of the wheel....it can be either negitive or positive....OR Neutral, in which case its exactly in the middle.

NOW, if you were actually asking what the offset actually is for your/our cars....I can't tell ya....but by definition....that is what Wheel Offset is.

You mean the center (core) of the wheel is not centered with edge of the rim??Is that why we sometimes need some plastic shims?I guess so..but how can it be negative or positive??Just spin the wheel and it will change,no??:laugh:

no...i guess I didn't esplane it corectly ricky.....

if you lay a straight edge across the flange of the wheel and measure from the mating surface of the center of the wheel AXIALLY out to this straight edge....if this deminsion is the same from the back of the wheel to the front of the wheel...there is NO OFFSET, or its Neutral...if the deminsion is different....then the offset is either positive or negitive..depending on whether or not the center is closer to the outside of the wheel or closer to the inside?.....

have you ever seen a lowrider and wonder how, not to mention WHY, their tires stick outside their wheelwells so far? its NOT because they have put spacers behind their wheels...but because they are using a wheel with some SERIOUS offset...

another term you may here that is refering to offset as well is BACKSPACKING.....same thing.
