what's up protege woooorld, once again i'm calling out to my protege homies to help me on this one, what's the biggest rims and tires, i could put on my 93 pro. lx, without any rubbing, or problems with steering, i just cant stand those 14 inch. wheels and rims, to damn small.... :D :D :D thanxs

You can go up to 18's, but I'd stick with 17's. Your car follows the standard fitments so you have an immense number of options.

yeah i've got 17's on my 1st gen, and i wouldn't go any bigger. :D

BIGGEST RIMS
 
U SERIOUS 17'S maybe 18's u have to be rubbing though the car takes 14's stock.... yo u have a pic of your 17's i want to see how they look on your car...... thanxs

this isn't my car, but these are the same rims i have. i also have GC coilovers, so i have them adjusted to about a 1.5" drop. :D

those rims look tight, they just cover the whole wheel well. it's true what they say rims definitely make the car. but i bet if he hits a pot hole he might rub. thanxs, for the pic:D :D :D :D

the potholes here in new orleans are HORRIBLE, and my rims don't rub. :D

Rubbing is a relative problem. It all has to do with several variables.

Wheel width and offset
Tire brand/model section width and O.D.

Ideally you should be able to achieve an 18" wheel that will retain a similar O.D. to your stock 14"ers. Therefore if the offset and widths are proper you can run this size without rubbing.

Aside from handling purposes, the main reason of running a smaller (sidewall) tire is to try to keep the same diameter as stock. If you go any larger, rubbing might be a problem, but other things such as your speedometer would become screwed up because it is calibrated for the stock diameter tire.

You probably could with an 18" wheel, but why?
