Tire pressure
I keep my pressure at 36 psi cold. Car feels much more stable and keeps straight line better. I found it by accident, was driving to racetrack and raised pressure at gas station some 50 km before. I really loved the feel!

yeah I like to run a little higher pressure too.
Usually, I'll put about 4 or 5lbs more in the back to get the car to rotate a little more. Oh and on the subject of Tires- I got the Kumho Ecsta712 (?) tires- awesome price and much better stick than the bridgestones that came with the car. -Jas 2000 ES |
The pro5 comes with a pretty decent set of tires. Dunlop Sport 5000

depending on the car though...there are three different tires you might get on your MP5...i got the dunlop which are nice, i really like them, you could also get the bridgestone or one other one...it is not an option to you, it is just basically luck of the draw.....

I'm glad I got the dunlops because i'm rather satisified with them. If you goto http://www.tirerack.com and go under tires you can see what kind of ratings the dunlops get.
Also I see you are somewhat good at graphics, would you be willing to make a 400 X 150-200 Image for the very Top left of this page. |

That's a bigger problem with 1st gens isn't it?
|
Racing aside.....
It feels weird when I'm driving, sometimes I swear it feels like my left front tire is flat, but then sometimes it feels like my front right tire is a bit flat, and I checked them after one of them was a bit flat for no reason. My car really doesn't keep that straight line sometimes, is it the tires, could it be the allignment or something, I do take my turns pretty hard...... |
I just remembered reading somewhere that the first gen had a lot more trailing throttle oversteer than the 2nd or 3rd gens. The way I read it, it sounded like it was a problem on the 1st gen cars. It could just be too much understeer on the 2nd and 3rd gens. :) The Protege is better in the handling department than any other small 4 door I've friven, but it still has noticable understeer stock. That's why I can't wait for the AWR rear sway bar. I know the front bar is a monster to replace. Has anyone tried replacing the stock front bar bushings with universal poly bushings?

Hmm, anyone have any ideas on how to get frozen aluminum valve stem caps off? The ones on the back are stuck.
|
Frozen as in cold welded, or corroded. The lighter is a great idea, now where do I find one since I'm a non smoker...
|
Yeah, we have gas stoves, but I don't want to set my car on fire. :D j/k I have plenty of anti seize compound being up here in the midwest. I never thought to use it on valve stem caps though.:)
|
That I did think of. Plus every other part I have removed on the engine or suspension so far. But valve stem caps? That's what I get for buying that #$%@. :)
