Tire Decision
 

Hey everyone give me yoru input
Kuhmo 712's, Nitto 450's or Toyo Proxes FZ4 all in 205/50/15VR specs. Let me know which i shoudl get I can get the Kuhmos for 60 the Nittos for 62 and the Toyos for 67.

Do not get FZ4-average tire(I had them-nothing special compared to previous Pirelli P700, but they really increase fuel economy,Dunlop SP5000 is much better in all aspects), Nitto 450 is "ricer" tire-all show and no go.. I would go with Kimhos, I heard only good stuff about them.

I would go with the Toyo T1-S but not enough treadwear for me and I'm not going to be driving my car like I stole it all the time. If it were tires for street racing then yeah but not daily driving...I think I'm going for the Kuhmos.

Umm what exatcly makes the Nitto's ricer? I ordered them with my new wheels I'm gettin on Thursday. They look like a pretty normal tire to me. I mean they're black, they have minimal labeling on them, no outrageous colors, 300 treadwear which I liked. And they were only $78 a piece. So please explain to me little more why they are "rice".

not sure why the Nittos have the rep as a ricer tire with "all show, no go" characteristics. i've been quite happy in the past 12K or so i've put on my 450s. they have great dry adhesion and, being M+S rated, they're even pretty damn good in the snow [important up here in MN]. granted, i'm running a pretty low profile [205/40ZR17], but i have nothing really bad to say about them at this point, with only exception being that their wet handling could be a bit better, but i'm sure we could all say that about our tires.

rumors of recaps are greatly mistaken. i'm sorry that the last poster may have had a bad experience with his, but to the rest, unless you've had a set, please hold your opinions. i'm sure craig is looking for more well founded views than repeating what you've read on other forums. :rolleyes:

Yeah well I have p5 for a daily driver, its not like I'm heading on the race track or anything, the car just ain't made for that so I don't need some super soft high performance racing tire. I just want sumthin that looks good, and is relatively inexpensive. As for the blowouts, well I've haven't heard any overwhelming amount of stories like that for those tires, and besides my dealer friend will hook me up with new ones if I ever have any issues. Can these ret-read rumors be confirmed, links, articles? I'm still waiting for what classifies them as rice.

i'm sorry you had a bad experience. my response here was to present my personal view and that i assume is what craig was hoping to find - other people's personal views.

it's not my fault that you got shitty performance out of yours [we all know that different tires on different cars in different environments can yield different performance characteristics], but that's no reason to refute my OPINION of the product and state your OPINION as FACT. you don't know what experience i have with tires/car/etc and, in light of that, it's not nice to tell someone their opinion is ill-founded. i thought a moderator would have a bit more manners.

So just cause you had some bad luck with them doesn't mean they suck. Its not like you are the almighty tire judge. Like pkc said every application is different. I'll let ya know how mine are later this week I got some 205/40/17's for my Enkei RS6 wheels. Can't wait to put them, and my springs on tomorrow :)

assuming the OR in your sig is Oregon, prepare for some disappointing wet traction. hope you enjoy them though despite.

btw, i have a very similiar setup: Enkei RF1s with the same size. [ the RF1s are over 2 lbs lighter than the RS6s. i actually like the looks of the 6s better though.] :p

i had a set of nittos and im sorry but i did not like them ...but the moderator was not attacking you on your choice of tire....take a step back , a deep breath and reread the thread he only stated he did not like them and that they were made from a touring tire compound....

Yeah well honestly I couldn't give two drops of monkey piss. I'm not racing my p5, its not meant to be raced, I think tires look fresh, and they are priced well. Basically all I was asking was why the fuck they are "rice", as for handling, cornering, wet/dry...YAK YAK YAK, I don't care. Its not like I'm in some big ass hurry to get to work or to get to up to the store or some shit. Going fast never really appealed to me. Unless you're a racer what's the damn point? Ummm hello PseudoRealityX? Have you read what my main question is? ALL I WANNA KNOW IS WHY THAT ONE DUDE CALLED THEM RICE. That my friend is the reason why I'm commenting about tires. And I don't even know what a Pep Boys is, so if you're trying to hurt my feelings keep trying, it takes alot more than that. That's cool that that other dude wants to turbo his ride, more power to him, and yes he would need higher performing tires, I don't. All I was trying to get was for someon to explain the rice thing, jeez nevermind, I give up :dunno:

Sweedenhouse, 'Rice' is an extremely over used term that refers to something done to a vehicle for looks rather than performance. It was originally used by the domestic crowd as a derogatory reference towards Japanese imports. I find it interesting it's been adopted by the import crowd themselves' to refer to each other negatively. I suggest you do what I do, and ignore it. It's just someones opinion, which they often confuse with fact. I've never actually owned Nitto tires, but I have heard from many people that they are inferior in grip to several other tires in their price range. I've also seen Sport Compact Car use them on their project cars, so I'm not sure about their performance. If maximum performance isn't important to you, I'd suggest buying the size you need that's the best price.

Oh guys cool down I just wanted some opinions. I think I am going with the Kuhmos. I drove a friends car with the exact tire i'm looking at on it and it held jsut as well as my AVSi's that are on my pro now. SO thanks for the interesting reading.
