Stock wheels on 97?

i really like these wheelcovers

I have seen them on several proteges and i am guessing that they are stock on 97's

I have a 96 and i HATE my hubcaps. they are so ugly:

my protege (it has 12 inch subs and nice system, but other than that is stock)

would it look bad to try and get those wheelcovers and lower it down a bit? stock is so high in the air. what do people think?

I dont like the look where the tire is covered by the car, i like it to look relitivly even.

if i got some springs i would also give it a tint, and then call the exterior done.

thanks for opinoins.

PS: for the interior i was thinking about getting a shift boot, becuase the rubber stuff is ugly, and something like this shift nob (blue matches my panasonic head unit):

would that be hard to install with some friends who are somewhat experienced with that stuff? i would want it wired to my lights.

also how hard would it be to install indeglow gauges for someone with no experiance? Impossible? How much is professional?

Before you spend one more dollar on stereo, stickers, silly lights, or hubcaps, you need to get some decent wheels.
At least 14s and they should be alloy. You'll be surprised how much better you car will look and handle. The 13s that came on the car are hardly suitable for anything but spares.

Ebay is a great place to find used rims. Do search for "Miata wheels rims alloys" or civic or integra...they all fit. People discard the OEM stuff after upgrading. I've picked up two sets of lightweight Miata rims for way less than $200. They even had decent rubber on them. Miata rims are incredibly light...12lbs per rim is typical. Don't get heavy ass cheap chinese knockoff aftermarket rims, unless all you're concerned about is how good your car looks in a parking lot.
