Scratched rims

Whats the best way to fix scratched rims?

there really is no way you can do it yourself... there are quite a few shops that do it. you can usually find them in the yellow pages. i know that discount tire does this for a small fee. you might go there and try to get a quote. :)

It really depends on what type of finish is on the rim, and how deep the scratch is. There are a lot of wheel refinishers out there. Just do your homework before you jump into it. I have a set of cheap rims that are scratched, they aren't even worth fixing. It would cost me $100 to fix it, plus I would have to pay for the tire to be removed and remounted, $12 each way. That doesn't even include shipping to and from the place that will do the work. A new wheel will run me $125. So for $1 more, I can have a perfect rim.

If your talking about the stock 16" rims non-chrome type...you can touch them up. The outer surface is just painted with a clearcoat finish. I found that the silver touch paint, color code 22V (I think that's the one) is a very close match to the rim if not a perfect match. I know this first hand because I touched up a minor curb scuff. I still know where it is...but I would have to point it out to anyone else.

Thanks for the replies guys.
And yes they are stock rims. I will see if i can buy the touch up paint at lordco or canadian tire.

I did a stupid today. When I was changing one of my wheels with the spare, I placed the wheel on the side while I mounted the spare. The next thing I knew the wheel fell, outer face down on the sidewalk! Now I have (2) cement looking marks on my wheel, around the middle center. Is there a way to file these down? This is a OEM wheel, non-chrome. Wish I could turn back time...

Just remember that wheels aren't jewelry. They get scuffed and scratched. Live with the imperfections.
