Rims question?

Would 17" X 8" wheels rub on the Protege5?

Yes most likely. Ive heard of 17 X 7s rubbing. Sorry

Well, yes and no.

The key question whenever asking about width fitment is the relative offset available in that wheel.

On the Protege5 you can run a 8" wheel, but you will need to thoroughly roll your fenders, get camber kit for the rear; about 1.5-2.0 degrees of adjustment is needed, you'll need to get coilovers and finally it will need to have a high offset wheel. Around a +50mm.

If all these variables are met, you will have a functional setup, but then again the degree of functionality is another question. If you are going to run a tire which fits perfectly on a 7.5" wheel, then why add the extra weight of a wider wheel. Only go as wide as you need to, otherwise it will begin to work negatively for you.

I emphasize that the rubbing problems will occur in the rear.

See ya, Rishie

If you let me know what wheel you are thinking of and it's offset, I can take some measurements on my MP5 and see what has to be done to fit it.
