Rain Tires, 'Wet', what ever...dunno
 

OK, forget snow tires, does anyone know about rain tires or 'wet' tires. You get what I am saying. I am in a land of no snow, just rain.

Wet performance has more to do with tread pattern than anythign else I think. The only other factor is temperature but that is the same whether wet or dry.

i.e. the Dunlop 9000's are a good "wet" tire as are Toyo T1-S. The marketing info will usually say whether they are designed for good wet performance or not.

latest trend is V tread directional tires. Toyo T1 s, Kumho Ecsta, Yoko ES100...just find which fits your budget.

If you want good wet perfromance, stay away from (most, if not all) all-season tires. All-season tires would be better named no-season tires.

In repeated tire tests, "summer" tires perform (dramatically) better in the wet than all-season tires. The exception is "dry" summer tires, like the BFG KD and Falken Azenis (although the Azenis work good in anything short of standing water).

I ran Kumho 711s ($40 for 195/50-15) for driving across country this summer and they didn't hydroplane even when it was raining so hard that I would have slowed down (windshield wipers struggling to keep up) were it not for the semis doing 75 (fear of being rear-ended/driven-over).

What is wrong with the stock tires on your car? I currently have no problem with the stock tires in the Seattle. First off before you buy any new "tires" tell us your driving habits. How fast do you drive...what conditions (standing water, light rain, down pour?) I rather not suggest a tire type until we know more of what type of conditions and how you drive in it.

No use suggesting the best "tires" if we do not know the info above.

Bridgestone S03 above 45 degrees.

Bridgestone RE950 below 45 degrees.

Yokohoma ES100 might be a good compromise as
I have heard they hold better below 40 degrees than
most summer tires.
