Not a tire and wheel person
 

My wife's P5 is moving like a badly weighted washing machine on spin cycle.

Three of the four wheels are bent (gotta love Indiana weather).

I am considering moving her up to a 17 inch wheel in hopes I will be able to find tires more easily and to improve the car's looks.

There have been no mods to the car and there never will be. So I am wondering what tire size and offset to get for it.

I checked the sticky and to be honest am a little confused by it.

205/40 17's are the way to go in order to get closest to the stock radius. Honestly though, if the rims you have now are all busted up because of the weather, the 17's are gonna be even worse. I know they look better, but with less tire between the rim and the road (pothole, curb, whatever), the larger rims will receive more damage.

I am beginning to lean back towards a 16 x 7 , because of what MGS said. What offset should I get for a 16 inch wheel?

I'm going with a 40mm. If I recall, the absolute minimum is 35 or 38 mm offset. Anything above 40 will work. Seriously though, tirerack.com is an awesome site for helping you find the right size rims and tires to go with. Also try tires.com. It's Discout Tire's online store. I've ordered from both and I'm about to do it again for summer tires on my new 17's.

What is it with women and wheels? Every time I'm next to a car in traffic and the rims are all rashed up from "Parking by Feel", sure enough there's a young lady driving. I've quit spending the time to put tire dressing on my GF's 2002 Dodge Ram (Damn 265/70-17's take half a can of tire dressing to do anyway! You should try rotating those heavy bastards by hand) because by that evening she's scraped it all off of the passenger side parking next to curbs.

I wish tire dressing was our problem with the P5. Its all about big ole Indiana chuckholes. Besides, I drive a jeep with 31 inch tires. I prefer a good layer of mud to tire dressing. :)

Actually I have been talking with the guy who owns BestWheel.com on the phone. He's pretty cool and is giving me a pretty sweet deal.

Next fall we will be buying some 15 inch steel wheels with big ole snow tires.

I will soon have two sets of rims also. I have the stock aluminum 15's for the winter and then I'll have the 17's for summer. It's the only way to go if you have to deal with snow.

I finally ordered some wheels and tires from wheelguyz.com. The dude on the phone was excellent and explained everything to me in terms I could understand. I paid $699 for a set of 17 inch wheels and tires - mounted and balanced. He even threw in the lug nuts, valve stems and shipping for free. So I'm a pretty happy camper.
