Ok, after searching through the threads I didn't find anything about these tires. But I did notice a few of you had them on your cars. I'm thinking of getting these tires strictly for around town use during the summer. I already have my original rims with winter tires. And have another set for traveling use.

I'm just wondering if these tires would be good for around town, and track use?

With having the other rims and tires, I don't have a lot of money to spend on tires, and the price for these run right in budget.

The 711 is really just OK. In saying that, it depends upon your real expectations from the tire, and what you are running on there now to get a good sense of any benefits you would realize from the tire. I will say that I would not tell you to run them on the track, as they just were never meant to do that.

Dependant upon the sizing, I think that there are better choices out there for you. If you can swing it financially, the Ultra High Summer catagory (I am thinking of the 712's here) offer more performance, better wet, and similar wear. Check out this link:

Search by size, and concentrate on those tires in the Ultra High catagory.

If, however, this is the only one that fits in the budget (I understand this greatly), they are my favorite in the High Perf Summer catagory. However since tires are so important, and it seems that you are looking for some decent track grip, I would tell you to maybe allocate more funds to it.

I'm using Yokohama AVS ES 100's. Great performance wet or dry. They are also very quiet for a performance tire. I recommend them highly. They are available from Tirerack.

Agreed. Those are a good value solution, as well. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the ES100's, especially as a replacement to the Intermediates. They also tend to get quite loud if you don't stay on the rotation every 3k miles. But, if we are looking bang for the buck, they are a pretty good value!

Yokohama has always had a bad habit of getting rid of really good tires. The original A-008 (the regular guy version, as well as the R compounds), the A-509, the AVS Intermediate (anyone remember the "AVS Dry?"), these were all really exeptional tires for the $$$. <sigh>
