Help Needed Re: Problem with Larger Wheels!
 

Hi all. I'm new here, new to upgrading cars, and need a bit of help.

I upgraded the wheels on my Protege SE, from a 14" x 6" wheel to a 16" x 7" Eagle (after market) wheel. The tires recommended by the wheel guy were 205-50-R16 so that's what I put on.

Since I've had them on (1 week) I've notice that the tire occassionally rubs on the shock cover, above the tire. On a recent highway trip, I'd say it happened about once per hour. Though I can't tell for sure, it seems to be on the drivers side rear wheel only.

Upon checking, there is a clearance of about 1" between the tops of the rear tires and the shock covers above. There seems to be about 1.5" clearance on the front ones. My questions are these:

1. Is it really a big deal if there is the occassional rub like this?

2. If so, what are my options to remedy the situation, keeping in mind I can't likely return the wheel or tires?

3. If I have to get something done, do you think it is the responsibility of the wheel guy that put it together to deal with this at his cost?

Any opinions would be really appreciated folks.
