The Dunlops at 15,000 miles/24,000 kms
 

My Dunlops have hit the 24,000 km mark and I'm disappointed at how worn out they are. Am I the only one who has noticed this? I'm gonna swap the tires out in October for my winter tires/steelies as I do every winter, but I feel like when its time to swap the Dunlops and 16" wheels back in come April 2004, I'm gonna need a new set of summer tires. Looks like its the last summer/fall for the Dunlops.

Is it normal for tires to be so worn out that they're un-usable around the 36,000 km/22,000 mile mark?

It depends on your driving style. I'm pretty sure we have the same tires (Dunlop Sport 5000 or something). I have 10k miles on my tires and three autocrosses and I still have relatively full tread depth. The wear is even across all four tires.

While I'm sure the Dunlops are a little softer than most economy car tires, I'm interested to see how long they last. Maybe some other people will chime in.

I have had mine for 29000 km's and they are all good. Wear is even all around. I'm happy with them. Sorry bout yours, take them back to the dealer and see what they say.

i got 54 000km on my dunlops, the front ones are pretty warn out, back arent bad...prob going to need new tires next season

My wifes P5 has 24K Miles on it and her 5000's look good...still a lot of tread on them...but then again she doesn't ZOOM ZOOM around much at all....

Just remember that the STOCK tires we get on our cars are PERFORMANCE tires....they are made of a sticker compound than the regular tires that come on MOST econoboxes....one of the inherant characteristics of PERFORMANCE tires is that they wear out faster.....because the STICKIER compounds are SOFTER....its what makes them grab the road better. Its a trade off...what do you want....a tire that will last 75,000 miles but not hold you on the road when ZOOMIN around a corner or through the twisties.....OR a tire that will stick you to the road but be gone in about 25K to 30K miles....

the choice is yours.

I was wondering about this... My 2003 has Bridgestone Potenzas on it, but in all the info I got from the dealer when I bought the car there was info about OE Dunlops.... but all the cars on their lot had the Potenzas on them. I don't know much about tires, and that confused me. All I know is that when I test drove the WRX it had Potenzas on it ;)

I know it depends on my driving style, and I do have a habit of Zoom Zoom-ing a little bit a lot :D and I often make fast starts when I take off which probably kills the tires more than normal, not to mention the 100+ degree Montreal summer doesn't help the treadware... I can actually see it melting onto the road :D

I can't believe you have 54K kms on yours, nightowl. You really must drive very "conservatively". Is yours an auto or manual? I have a feeling that makes a difference since the auto is harder to "fast start"/peel with. Anyways, I don't see mine making it past 36K kms as I can already slightly see the treadwear marker behind the little that's left of my tread.

When I traded in my 01' ES2.0 with 29,000 miles, the tires were wore to their limit. They should have been replaced at 27,000. I drive hard and rotated the tires every 5k so they had even wear. My sister has a 01' ES2.0 with 35,000 and her tires still have pleanty of tread left. She does not zoom-zoom like many of us in this forum........I have 12,000 miles on my PR5 now and had winter tires on for the first 5k. I rotated the dunlops at 10k after driving 5k on them and they show wear, but the have 7k on them which is 1/4 of their life I expect. I think the tires hold the road well and I am happy with them except in the snow and in the heavy rain after lots of wear (hydro-plane.......). I think when it comes time to replace them, I will get some 17's w/new rims.

ahhh, it feels good to know I'm not the only one with prematurely worn-out Dunlops! :D

They are not prematurely worn out, just used to the drivers enjoyment. I like to drive my car to hard without abusing it. I like to use the cars good handling, which wears out the performance tires faster than others. Cars come with high speed tires for a reason.........

My Dunlops lasted me to about 26000 miles with very hard driving.

I am satisfied.

My dad's 2000 ES had Potenzas and they lasted about 39000 miles with his driving style.

Mine are now at 80,000km, still have a decent amount of tread left on them (rotated them once, all torqued down properly, and always keep pressure at about 32-40 depending on where i'm going/what i'm doing).
I'm about to replace on pair because one tire blew out (might as well replace both).

i have over 37,000 miles on mine.
they still have tread left though very little.
i'll change them out before NOPI.

If only our cars came OE with decent rubber. :P

its not sticky in the raid otherwise i don't see anything wrong with them.
