anyone own these?

Hi there guys... whats new... just wondering if anyone has Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1's for winter tires.... preferably Edmonton area... how much did you spend? Just curious as the cost... since i am willing paying quite the buck for a pair of michelins for the winter, i figure i might give this comany a try... i hear they are beyond the best.

Nokians are awesome tire company but I've never tried them for my car. I had them on my mountain bike though...26 x 3.0" downhill specific tires.

I run hakka 1's for the winter on my Saab and nokian NRV's for the summer awesome grip

actually, that s good point i didnt see... our streets are bare from snow 99% of the time so i really dont need to go to that extreme. good thing you mentioned that

anyway,thanks ... see you around.

The Hakkas are simply the best winter tire out there...but on snow only. As Edmonton streets are typically bare grozen asphalt, with icy patches, I'm not too certain your extra money isn't being wasted. If you lived way out in the bush, there's no tire better (we've rallied on them for winter rallies).

I'd suggest going for a good snow and ice tire...like the Toyo G-02 Observe, Michelin Acrtic Alpin, Nokian NRW, Dunlop Graspic, Yokohama Guardex, and last for a reason, the Bridgestone Blizzak (I don't like them).

YMMV

The Nokian NRWs are actually an "all weather" tire, not just a winter tire. We run those all year round on our Suzuki GV.

And interestingly enough, they really do work well in all weather. :)

I'm looking at getting the Nokian NRW's.

I spoke to a service advisor at a local tire shop (Kal-Tire) and he told me that this tire is an "all-weather" tire. Not only is it great in winter conditions (it has the Mountain/Snowflake designation) it performs excellently in dry conditions (H-rated). It comes in the P195/55 R15 that my Pro needs too. He said they have a 100, 000 km warranty (not sure what exactly is warrantied though).

Basically, he told me that I could use the tires all year long (ie. not switching to summers again).

I'm looking on the net for info, but just curious if anybody has any more actual experience with these.

Thanks. :D

One Finnish magazine just tested winter tires and here are the results:
* Goodyear Ultragrip 500 8.7 points (out of 10)
* Continental WinterViking1 8.6 points
* Gislaved Nord Frost3 8.6 points
* Nokian Hakkapeliitta2 8.6 points
* Michelin Ivalo 8.1 points

For comparing all-season tires; best all-season tire Nokian Hakkapeliitta Q got 7.9 points

I've got Gislaved NF II and those are damn good tires, next will definitely be Gislaved. I've also got Goodyear UG 400 but I don't like them as much as Nord Frost.

Hakkapeliitta 1 is old model but still pretty good one. Did you know that Nokian tires and Nokia (which makes cellphones) are originally same Finnish company which started making rubber boots ;)

I just went out and ordered some Nokian NRW's tires.
Check 'em out here:

And here:

I'll let everybody know what I think of their dry pavement performance as compared to the stock Potenzas.

:D

NRW's were (are?) on sale for $136/tire. Total w/ balancing, etc was $660. For the Hakkapilleta Q's (non-studdable winter only tire) the cost would have been $700. This was at Kal-Tire

CanTire had Michelin Arctic Alpins on sale and the total would have been $600 for them. I think that sale ends tomorrow (Thrusday Oct. 10/02).
