215/45-17 tires
 

will 17 x7.5'' rota subzeros wraped around kumho 215/45-17 tires fit on my mp5 ?

it will probably work better if you wrap the kumhos around the rotas...;)

funny, i have the set in my signature sitting in my room and i have been debating the same question!

here's how the math works out:

(width in mm/25.4) * (aspect ratio) * (2) + (rim diameter) = (overall diameter)

stock tires -- 195/50R-16
(195/25.4) * (.50) * (2) + (16) = (23.68)
diameter = 23.68", circumference = 74.39"

kumhos -- 215/45R-17
diameter = 24.62", circumference = 77.35"

a difference of (74.39/77.35 =) 2.96" (3.827%)

so what that means is that with the Kumhos, you will be traveling 3.827% faster than your speedo indicates, and 3.827% farther than your odo indicates. for example, at an inidcated 60mph, you will be traveling at (60*.03827 =) 62.3mph. for every 100 miles indicated on your odo, you will have traveled 103.827 miles.

(of course, both your speedo and odo have errors too, so this differenc emay actually be smaller than what is already inherent. however, it may either add or subtract to the difference. i think most speedos are calibrated on the low side, so when your speedo says you are going 70, you might only be going 67.)

in any case, 3.8% is on the high end of what is recommended for "Plus size" fitments. if this is acceptable to you, go for it. just be aware of the offset of the wheels as well. if you stay within the overall diameter, you should be fine, but try to stay w/in 7mm (1/4") or so on offset.

there is some other draw backs as well....with a larger diameter tire/wheel combo...it actually requires MORE torque and power to get them rolling.....so it CAN slow your car down in the acceleration department.....but on the other hand...it will increase the actual top end.

also...if you stick with a 215/40/17 the odometer/speedo error is reduced to .4% vs nearly 4%

indeed. that seems to be the ideal size. too bad i can't take that .05 out of my tires now! ;)

oh well. they fit RSX's perfectly. ebay here i come!

I own a Protege5 with 17x7.5 ROTA Sub-Zeros's, mounted with Kumho 711 tires. The size is: 215/40HR17. With my H & R Springs the fitment is PERFECT......no rubbing and they handle well.

the critical part in the offset of the wheel...you have to have the proper offsett...check with Rishie to find out what that offset should be for your wheel/tire combo is.
