205/50 would be less of an increase in size...
You didn't say which tire you want. Check the manufacturers specs on the recommended rim withs for the tire you want. That will say whether it will fit on your stock rims.

well they are Falken AZENIS RS 205/55/16 on a rim that has the stock Dunlop of 195/50/16

yes they will. i learned this the hard way. everyone flamed me for weeks whiel i tried to learn about tires and fitting... :)

goto: www.falkentire.com then go to catalog and check the specs for the 16's. approved rim widths are 5.5-7.5" you'll be fine.

I wouldn't go with 55's.

More sidewall to flex= bad for performance.

i'm getting them mounted on friday by my friend. i'm picking the wheels up on wed. and my tires should be here wed or thurs. i don't expect to have problems since i'm not using the smaller width reccomended. trust me, it'll work. ;) enjoy em, i sure as heck am!

go with a 215/40/16 3 reasons
wider looks cooler
wider handels better
and the 215/60 is the closest ration to height from the factory size of 195/50/16

mxzoom February-1st-2003 02:17 PM

would the 215/40-16 clear in the wheel wells or will they rub when the tire is turned?

mxzoom February-1st-2003 02:23 PM

i think215/45-16 would be the better match if they fithttp://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

walight01 February-2nd-2003 05:39 PM

they fit and work perfect.

walight01 February-2nd-2003 05:40 PM

you can't get a 215/4r16 for under 250 bucks

protegeownzj00 February-2nd-2003 10:46 PM

you're talking about a specific tire right? cause you can find theat size for cheaper than that....

walight01 February-3rd-2003 11:01 AM

i'm talking about any tire in that size from discounttire. they do sell a falkin for like 105 but the tredwear is like 180AA.
