Where in Edmonton for Service for my Ford?
Ok.. my 92 escort is starting to calf..
Recently passed 200k and here's what needs to be done soon:
timing belt - needs replacement
leaking head gasket - has been for years but now one of the cylinders takes FOREVER to start firing and is causing much shaking and obviously a horrible driving experience untill it fixes itself
cooling system is pooched - during the summer - the engine heats up like crazy - like to the very high end of the normal range. during cooler months like winter, the engine never even makes enough heat to make it to the normal range and as such the cabin never does either. I'm thinking stuck thermostat, but i'm on the third thermostat and the problem keeps happening. Do thermostats get stuck that easily? Could it be something else?
those are the 3 majors.. plus we need an alignment and probably some other minor things..
Any ideas where I can take it where they'll at least lube me up before bending me over? Richard, I remember that way back you recommended a place where to take my Mazda, but now i can't find it when i do a search. Will they work on my ford too? It is mostly mazda after all!!

unfortunatly, untill the p5 is paid for (4.5 years away), we need a 2nd vehicle..
so.. as a sidebar to my question, anyone have a good running vehicle that would cost me less to buy than the repairs i'm looking at for my scort?

You should take it to a backyard mechanic or at least to a independant garage. They will be cheaper and the work is about the same. I don't know how it is in Alberta, but in Saskatchewan those guys are everywhere. You could get at least your timing belt and the head gasket replaced, and he/she might be able to even tell you what is wrong with the engine that you keep going thru thermostats.

Jas... listen to Jim.. take it there.. then maybe I can go watch... I wanna see what the inside of one of these engine things looks like!
On a less selfish note.. they'll prob be pretty honest about what you can duct tape and what you need to replace.. since they'll probably end up getting your money one way or another anyways

Rich, unfortunately, it IS the 1.9ltr good ol icky 4 door sedan with the ghey electric seatbelts.. neato in summer, PITA in winter...
Hope being a Ford engine doesn't change your offer Jim!
Jim, do you need to see the car to guesstimate costs, or can u PM or call me with one?
I'll give a call to Abbey too and see what they say.
Can't do anything till my next day off in a couple weeks tho..

I might know somone from ford who MIGHT be interested in working on your car. It is a friend of a friend, who has done stuff on the side before.
If you are interested let me know and I will look into it.
