I know... :(

I'll take a better one tomorrow. I was kind of in a mad rush when I took this pic. Didn't really notice the shadow till it was too late.

DISTRBD August-20th-2002 10:38 PM

Looks sweet!

mesoh August-20th-2002 10:54 PM

looks dandy. what did you use for the logos? tremclad, touch up paint?
did you remove the logo first, if so how, and finally did you consider spraying them with a krylon clearcoat for longer life and less touch ups?

I had considered doing the same thing but i couldn't figure out how to get the cap off and didn't feel like scuffing the rims prying away with a screwdriver at 3 am.

Thanks guys!!

Yeah - i just used good ol tremclad rust paint.. I'm a little worried though cuz i'm not entirely sure that the paint has a good hold on the plastic (seeing as it's for metal), so if it peels off next time i take the high pressure wash to it, i'll get some proper plastic paint and re-do them.

Didn't think about spraying clearcoat on but thats a groovy idea.

To take the caps off - take off your wheel, and push it out from behind. Just pops out - no sweat. I just tapped it out with my tire iron.

The real pain in the ASS was masking off the logos to keep paint from getting on them. That was a one night project right there.

Traveler August-20th-2002 11:04 PM

The center caps remove very easily. You remove the rims from the car, and push them out from the inside. If you try to pry them you'll scratch them. They just pop right out if you push them from the backside.

No Problem Jason. Gee, now I can't say I'm the only one. Oh well, I'll just have to find something else to do, yeah, like that's going to be hard :D.

Anyway, here is the link to the tread where I posted how I did my centers.

Painting wheel hubs

noodles August-21st-2002 03:07 PM

IMO that's too colorful. Blue pro 5 with yellow and red.. a lil bit too much for me.. but to each his own i guess.

where do you see red?? other than my strut bar i'm yellow and blue!

skyhawk174 August-21st-2002 03:38 PM

He's probably confusing my red and yellow scheme with yours. Ooops.

Now I am looking at doing my valve cover but I am wavering.

i thought about it, but i just did the lettering and i think i'm happy with that. i think that might be bordering on the side of excess.

spikyC August-21st-2002 10:18 PM

Hey Sandman looks good!

oh and i won't copy you this time...
the only other thing that i will ever consider doing to the outside of my car is new rims...

Hmmm, I think excess would be the valve cover, the heat shield, the fuse box cover, etc. You know, red city. Others have done it but I'll stick to my little bit, plus it is under the hood so not really seen alot. I thought about changing the hoses then I went and lay down and the feeling went away :D.

By the way I am picking up my new shift knob tomorrow so another change.

Still to do, paint rest of front grill, paint valve cover, add stripes, a couple more small zoom zoom stickers. That should be it for awhile and hopefully I'll have it done before Red Deer.

Hey what ever.. I never even noticed!!

SedanMan August-22nd-2002 07:30 PM

The centercaps dont look good to me... but nice job on the calipers and dust shield. It adds a halo to the rotor.

sandman August-23rd-2002 12:03 AM

thats cool - to each their own..

and halo is the first thing that came to my mind after i did it too! :D

skyhawk174 August-23rd-2002 12:35 AM

Hey Jason, did you not say you were going to paint the dust shield black so that you really could not see it? Hmm, after seeing mine you must have changed your mind right?

Looks good. I think we are the only ones in Edmonton to do that. Gee, we're almost twins :p .

Separated at birth maybe? ;)

Actually i was talking about the inside part of the rotors.. to make it look like the brake part was floating.. The dust shield I wanted to do yellow from the start, but seeing your red ones cemented the idea!

Brycer79 August-29th-2002 04:24 AM

oh man I was thinkin about doin that

oh man we thought abotu doin that when we painted our calipers the different color, how did ya do the shield?? did ya spraypaint? or brush?? how hard was it to do???

Thanks!

sandman August-29th-2002 09:34 AM

Brushed it on man.. I don't believe in spray paint - kills the environment! ;)

Just masked off the top edge of the rotors so they wouldn't get painted and brushed it on..

make sure you clean it REALLY REALLY good.. It is a dustshield after all.. it's meant to catch dust so it'll be pretty dirty..

No'ones gonna see it ever, but I did the other side too...

Brycer79 August-29th-2002 12:55 PM

sweeeeeet thanks for the tip did ya just hose it and wipe it or clean it with something else as well??

sandman August-29th-2002 01:07 PM

rubbing alcohol and those blue-paper-towel-type shop towels you can get at any automotive kind of place.

I went over it a couple times cuz the dust was REALLY caked and embedded onto the metal..

That'll have to do untill the day where I take my rotors off for whatever reason, and I'll clean it REALLY good and be able to paint the whole thing, instead of just the area you can see..

Brycer79 August-30th-2002 03:14 PM
