I was thinking of the same thing however I may make a piece that wraps under and goes to the same spot on the engine. I have some stainless steel sheet at work and I may get a chance to work on it tomorrow.

Yeah definatly have to do something....

It's totally back to rubbing again...
Makes the car sound so crappy...

If you really punch it i get a banging noise of the Intake slaming into the bracket... Not cool!!!

Bryce

Go see Shane at Jb's on Fort Road. He will sell you one for $110 plus GST. However, remember it will be the shiny aluminum ones.

As for a difference, I noticed the acceleration is better and it is more responsive now. Of course it just sounds so sweet, okay except for that frigging rattle, it sounds sweet. I'll look at fixing that this week.

I painted one of them tonight. I'll see how it looks after I take off the masking. I'll post it on the thread I started in the Interior/Exterior.

I will have to come by tomorrow and check it out!!

Great as I have to take a picture of your car to post. I posted your calipers in another thread and someone saw it but would like a shot of the whole car.

As for the cap, I want to do the rest tomorrow. Should only take about half an hour once I get them off the rim. I had to take the rim completely off the car and tap it off from the inside. That way you don't damage the edges.

Okay so I found out what was causing the rattle. As I suspected and someone else said, it was touching the brake master cylinder . It looked clear and as I mentioned I was revving the engine and it did not touch. However, it appears that there is a lot more movement when you engage the gears, duh makes sense. I found that the paint was worn away on the underside of the pipe right where it would touch the cylinder. Lucky it is on the bottom and no one can see it :) so the intake still looks good.

I did a temporary fix by bending the bracket again but I am having another one made to fit in the two holes in the side of the MAF sensor then down to the free bolt on the battery tray. Not happy about that but we'll see how it goes. Making two at the same time, one for me and one for spikeyC. I may end up making a whole new bracket which mounts to two holes on the engine block.

Told ya so! Seriously though, I've had mine on for a bit and the engine moves around a lot more than you'd think. I got my intake from ASMI (from a guy on Ebay) and they use the same tubing with a different cone filter. It has one of the ones that has part of the filter on the inside of the end like a reverse cone. Price was right also at $85! I'm going to be coming up with a better way of mounting mine as well. It doesn't touch all the time just mostly when I take off quick. I think poly engine mounts would fix it.

Pro_fan July-10th-2002 01:53 PM

So we're talking $110 w/ the filter included? What kind of filter is it?

skyhawk174 July-10th-2002 02:15 PM

Mike

I believe it is their own, similar to the K&N. So far I think it is fine, plus Jim at Jarman Mazda was told by Ractive that they should use the K&N recharge kit on it. Hopefully you'll get a chance to see it on Thursday.

Where does a guy go to get something powder-coated? Paint shops? I have to hunt around here in Stoon for the Ractive dealer. I can definitely afford one of those systems.

Don't know about where to get powder coating done in your town, but your mazda dealer should be able to order it for you! That's where I got mine. Good luck! :D

Cool, I got an oil change coming up and will yap then....I also want to check on the cost of the manual there. The problem is that we only have one Mazda dealer in town (how you say, bend over  ) so they can gouge on the prices. I think I will yip about the Mspeed parts as well. Thanks.

What I paid from my dealer:

Ractive intake - 139.99 + taxes (there is a place here in edmonton that's selling them for 110)
Shop Manual - 90 + taxes

don't let them charge you more than that!!
