Hey guys... new here... been on the other thread, but now i thought i would come here too since its regional.

So anyway, just thought i would say hi... hope you are all likeing your P5.

sandman September-19th-2002 11:27 PM

hey man - whats up!?!?

let me be the first to say WELCOME TO THE CLUB!! :D

our little regional west section here seems to be the most active part of the forum as of late...

skyhawk174 September-20th-2002 12:08 AM

Okay I'll be the second and offer the welcome mat to you. So welcome.

I have seen only a few black P5s around Edmonton and one of them has a large red zoom-zoom for his eyebrow and an additional wing (some call it the shopping cart handle). So yours must be one of the ones I see every so often. Are you up in the north end of town?

Brycer79 September-20th-2002 01:52 AM

oh fine sandman and skyhawk think they win but I will be the THIRD!! HA HA WELCOME! you might have seen us with the yellow mazda speed across the eyebrow

ZiO September-20th-2002 07:54 AM

I believe Jim (mazda44) at Jarman is trying to get something going for us but no luck so far, right Jim?

As for other detail stuff you can see Shane at JBs on Fort Rd and 137Ave. He has been real good to us guys from the board. Bought too much stff there already. Must be addictive this P5 :D.

I'm not speaking for Jim...

Why would the dealer go out of his way to offer discounts to a bunch of yahoos off the net? I can see if this were an official club like the Miata people have, but seriously it's just a web board. Basically you have membership because you 1) Have a Protege and 2) have net connectiong...not too exclusive ;)

I think these relationships have to go two ways. The dealership has to get something out of it as well. And imho that would be customer loyalty, or generating interest and bringing new people in. The event in Red Deer is a good example, I doubt that Gary Moe did that just for the sake of the Miata/Protege community.

Chris you obviously have approached Jim about getting a 'club' discount of sorts, but how many people here actively purchase things from them? How often are people suggesting to friends and family that they buy cars there? How much loyalty is this 'community' showing the dealer? Or do people just go with who has the best deal at the time?

Now if "we" started an official club, and approached the owner of a dealer for sponsorship things might be a little different. Until then I wouldn't expect any dealer to give a rats ass.

Jay

(Chris, I just piggy backed your post...this isn't directed soley at you, but everyone in Edmonton)

My 2 bits on a dealership/club deal...

Here's my loooong winded story.. once upon a time.. :)

I had decided to buy a new car.. I spent the last 2 years (yes 2) researching..and I was pretty gung ho about getting a Honda (please don't flame me or eat me alive.. I OBVIOUSLY made the switch.. :) )

Anyways.. a friend of mine (aka Sandman) has a P5.. I saw it.. thought it was pretty cute.. and him being the enthusiast that he is, he delivered a month or so long sales pitch.. as part of his pitch, he told me about this site.. I lurked around silently, reading what the boards members were writing about the car..

Well after a few years of thinking about purchasing a car.. I woke up one morning.. and said 'today is the day.. I'm buying a car.. and it's going to be a P5'.. because of all I had heard and read about Jarman.. I decided that's where I was going..

From all the research I did on the car.. I knew how much I could 'talk them down'.. I was also buying a 2002 6 weeks before the 2003's were coming out.. I didn't dealer hop for price competition.. I got a few options thrown in so I didn't feel like a total sucker.. and pretty much went with their price.. don't get me wrong.. they were great.. and went above and beyond.. but it was a VERY easy sale for them..

I hold a very high value to service.. and felt strongly that my relationship with my dealership is just as important a part of taking care of my car, as the kind of gas I put into it.. I didn't feel that haggling over a few hundred dollars would be a good start in that relationship..

I've become an enthusiast.. about my car, about the community, and my dealership...

Without the protege community support, and the great service reports from protege enthusiasts about Jarman.. I'd be driving a honda..

Anyways.. ramble ramble.. that's why I think they should 'give a rats ass'... I'm rather disappointed that they (they being the dealership as a whole.. not individuals there) don't seem to :(

Getting decent service is a dissapointment?

fraay September-20th-2002 11:20 PM

Jay I think you may have misunderstood my post..

You said you wouldn't expect any dealer to give a rats ass.. about a bunch of yahoos off the net .. (not denying that we're yahoos :) )...

My post expressed my opinion of why I think my particular dealership should 'give a rats ass' about the pclub..

My disappointment is not in their service.. I'm hoping to always take my car there for servicing, buy any future cars from them.. and I never give up an opportunity to tell others about how great they are...

The disappointment I expressed was that the dealership doesn't officially recognize the value of pclub..

I understand its just an internet group.. but even if all it ever does is get my business.. heck I'm self centered.. I think that should be enough! :)

Jay, this thing about the club thing was something that came up one day when I was there and spoke to Jim. I did not ask him for anything, he just mentioned that there were bringing in more of the upgrade components.

I agree with what you said and maybe I got caught up with what the Miata guys get at the different places. I would think that an official club would make sense so maybe this is the start of the ground work towards that end.

Gosh you are as bad as Richard. :p

As I mentioned in another post I would not mind being a member of a local Protege club but at the moment I do not have the time to run one. As it is, I barely have time to participate in my regular hobby club far less start a new one. Maybe in the future?

skyhawk174 September-21st-2002 12:35 PM

You hit the nail on the head Richard as yes I would be involved but really I am much too busy with my first passion, my other club. Oops I should have said my second passion, sorry dear :D.

All it takes is someone with organizational and people skills. Ability at public speaking would not hurt too.
