Edmonton Protege Club - BBQ meet

Hey All - The EPC is planning a BBQ meet in two weeks time - all are invited to join!

Here's the plan:

Meet is Saturday, July 19. In the event of a rainout - the event will be postponed to a week later, July 26.

Meet at Gateway Info Centre on Calgary Trail - 11:30am
Depart at 12 noon - Sharp!
Head up Calgary Trail to Whyte Ave - turn west
Follow Whyte Ave to University Ave - continue on
Follow University Ave to Groat Road - continue on
Follow Groat Road to St. Albert Trail - continue on
Follow St. Albert Trail to Yellowhead Trail - turn West
Follow Yellowhead to Pembina Provincial Park

Everyone is responsible for bringing their own food, roasting sticks and chairs. We've got wood covered.

For a map of the route I described above, I've posted a scan:

Please RSVP your attendance in this thread or PM me!

Awesome!! You're right on the money.. As you're coming up to edmonton, the highway will split and you'll see an information center in between the northbound and southbound lanes - thats where we're meeting.

As Rich said - *technically* the northbound side of calgary trail is now called gateway blvd, however *I* and many others will never EVER refer to it as such. Just like I'll never EVER EVER refer to capilano by it's new name..

I'll put you down as an official RSVP! :)

Hey Rich! Long time no see/talk! (sidebar - how did you guys do at the autoslalom this year? Wasn't able to make it out to watch this year. :( )

We were initially thinking of doing a drive outside of the city like you led us on last year, but decided instead to go through the city as a 'club' to give some exposure to our little group. Pretty much why we chose to go through Whyte Ave. Traffic lights will be a bitch, but might be worth it when we all drive in a row down the street - it's always fun to see the looks on people's faces when they see a line of cars that are all from the same 'family'.

Funky Buddha July-4th-2003 03:54 PM

I can make it for the 19'th. Sport Compact Nights is on July 16 here in Calgary at the Telus Convention Centre. You edomonton guys should come down and check it out.

Hey pr5owner, I'm gonna have to follow you up if you're going and if this thing actually goes through.

Thas Great news!

But what's this - 'if this thing actually goes through' - !?! Like we're a bunch of flakes or something up here in Edmonton! I can tell you the meet's a definite go - only the date is sketchy pending the weather. But it's not going to rain, so we'll be all good!!

Go north on Highway 2. Turn left at Gateway information center (just past the City of Champignons sign ;)), into the parking lot full of Mazdas. What's so hard about that?? (j/k) :D

Unlike those Edmonchukers, I am flaky so I don't expect to see you guys there.

Have fun!!

i was joking :)

Funky Buddha July-4th-2003 07:22 PM

That's what I meant..the date is bit flaky depending on weather. Anyways, I'm in. I made an error in my post. Sport Compact Nights is on July 26th (NOT THE 16TH) so if BBQ on 19th doesn't go, come down to Cowtown for SCN on the 26th.

Hong Kong Fever July-4th-2003 11:07 PM

Id love to make it but cant as Im going to be out of town on the 19th out East...if it does get postponed...I dont think I can make it either as SCC will be in town and I leave for Vancouver the next day :(

Ok, but the rain put the Subaru team on top in the Edmonton Autoslalom Challenge Cup. Some of us are now running with the Porsche club - 175km/h straights...woo hoo!

You'd better think of either printing routes or having a few cars in the group with FRS radios, because you'll get split up royally... Speaking from experience...

Bad news on the CC, but cool to hear about the porsche club! Should get your need for speed fix there!! :)

In my very first post about the drive, i posted a map, which contains the route we plan on following. Good call on the radios! :)

All from experience...FRS radios are cheap and a lot of people have them anyway.

As an aside, have you guys been contacted by Vance on the MITM event, which is now August 16? (see thread stuck to the top of this section)

I just got an email from him.

I've given him your guys' website (with an indication that you have your own forum) but I guess he's found it difficult or to time consuming to sign up yet...

Perhaps you guys should drop him a line...wouldn't want to miss out.

I edited my post after checking my email. He has contacted us.

Thanks for pointing him in our direction. We will see if we can't get some people from the EPC to attend, I'm thinking about it.

You know, I just don't want the strippers to spit on me when I toss quaters at them. That's just me :)

So who is going to bring the pole?

The more the merrier!! Come on down - after hanging out with us, you'll probably decide to join the club anyway! You would be able to join on the spot if you wanted to - dues are currently $5 / year.

Go to the URL in my sig for more details about our club if you're interested in that...
