2-Year Maintenance
Howdy All,
My 2000 LX is up for its 2-year checkup and I was wondering what people were paying for one at the dealership and at independent shops. I vaguely remember overhearing the service dept. quote somone $400 for a two year checkup when I went in for an oil change (Kramer Mazda in Calgary) but I don't know what kind of car he had. IIRC, the 2 year (48000 km?) checkup is mostly things like spark plugs, air filter, etc. It sounds like most of it can be done by yourself or a good independent mechanic. Somebody have their manual handy? :D |
The 48,000 km service includes flushing and replacing almost all of the fluids - transmission, brakes, coolant, oil (as per usual), power steering, etc.
That is why it is expensive. Shop time more than anything else is the reason I would expect. |
Called and got cost
I called Kramer Mazda and the cost is $220 (the $400 must have been for a different car). I could take it to an all-makes independent for $100 less, but It's probably worth going to the dealership. Searching through this board I saw that someone in Long Island paid $380US for their 30 mile maintenance. Any thoughts?

Hmm...I think the 48000km tune-up is pretty close to 2 years. Average km/year is about 20000km/year right, so 48000 km is close enough to call it the "2 year" servicing I guess.

After that, it's 48,000km intervals, which will really screwy in terms of it being out of sequence with the major 48,000km interval (every second requiring a fuel filter and timing belt). Richard what you are saying is right and wrong. There is a two year service(48,000 kms) if you looking you owners manual it reads 24 mounths or 48,000KM. Mazda has and will deny claims because services like the 48,000km service aren't done even if the car has 15,000 km but is 4 years old. I wouldn't take the risk but it is up to each person to decide. As for the service there isn,t a lot to be done, most dealerships will go off the owners manual but some do not, $220.00 is more like the price you should pay. Jim |
