SHOW US HOW IT'S DONE!

KrayzieFox May-10th-2007 02:13 PM

Yea .. no one's posted in here in a looooooooong time.

_Kansei_ May-10th-2007 02:42 PM

I have a few how-tos that I've written, but I know that at least one of them was "lost" from an unmentionable web site yesterday. Funny how things disappear like that from a database...

BOOSTD 7 May-10th-2007 02:44 PM

Post some stuff up guys, I'll double-check it afterward for grammar - I do publish a print magazine after-all :)

dentinger May-10th-2007 03:19 PM

i wanted to do a 'how-to' on lowering your 3 with springs...
but i didnt have my camera on me.....
i mite try to do it tomorow, cuz i have to take my front strut apart cuz i damaged the strut brace dealie when pulling the shock out....

KrayzieFox May-10th-2007 03:24 PM

I'm gonna do one on how-to change all 4 brake pads on the P5 here soon. It seems to be a popular request and just about everyone needs to get those changed sooner or later.

_Kansei_ May-10th-2007 03:28 PM

I could provide full text for the brake change job from memory.. I just did it again a few weeks ago myself. I did pads, rotors, brake lines, and fluid all at the same time. I didn't take pictures of the process though.

Alejo_NIN May-10th-2007 03:54 PM

great, lets get to work

PLEASE do that cause I tried installing springs on my 3 and FAILED!:tear:

i don't think is a good idea to have tech articles together with how-to's
and the how-to's section should be restricted as to not get it filled with uselss posts.
also, a subforum for the how-to's sections called REQUESTS, of how-to's not in the database...

maybe i'm a newbe and nobody really cares....just a thought

_Kansei_ May-10th-2007 04:38 PM

A requests subforum is a good idea! I haven't seen that anywhere before. If people don't mind not having pictures for some of them (though I have thousands of pics of my car.. I can find applicable ones I'm sure), I can write a bunch of how-tos.. at 83k miles, I've done a lot of general maintenance, and of course an excessive amount of mods :P

Dude ... that's an awesome idea. You might be "new" here but you're far from a n00b. Your ideas rock!!

I'll take pics over the weekend if you wanna do the writing. Sound good?

yeah no problem. I do technical writing a LOT at work (IT stuff) so it's fun :)

Alejo_NIN May-10th-2007 05:16 PM

i think we should do a how-to anyways, perhaps next time when someone actually tries the how-to. he'll take pictures and could share them with us.

i know alot of shit too, little stuff like changing a oilpump, and water pump....simple stuff that people pass for granted but for some other could save them a buck or two.

i used to write alot of how-tos on msprotege, maybe i can copy all of them and just post them here for all to see

it could be a start

really?? what went wrong??

chiefmg May-15th-2007 09:10 AM

I can do one on how to replace the fuel pump suction filter, complete with pictures. Only rub is it will have to wait until I am home due to the limitations of my current 'Net access. I have also replaced all my suspension (including the front/rear sway bars) but alas no pics as I was garageless at the time trying to get it done.

Oh, and Boostd7, if you find mispellings in anything I write I will hang my head in shame!

_Kansei_ May-15th-2007 10:03 AM

I'm assuming for your Pro not your MS6? At what mileage did you need to change the filter?

eggynatey May-15th-2007 10:28 AM

I posted one the other day, pics and all, but I don't even think it's got any views much less replies.

_Kansei_ May-15th-2007 10:39 AM

I saw it :)

It was on my gf's '99 Pro ES w/1.8l. Same as for the 2.0l cars. I was a little late, did it around 109,000 miles. Many people say you don't have to but since I was doing all the other fun stuff (timing belt/water pump/other belts/thermostat/etc) I figured why not. It is a fairly simple task.

I can also tell how to replace the fuel filter on an '81 RX-7. Easy except for the fuel that runs down your arm. Whoops, wrong forum!

_Kansei_ May-15th-2007 01:31 PM

Yeah I recall our fuel filter being "lifetime" but with crap winter blend gas and all the other things Mazda Japan didn't exactly plan for (re: my yet again rusting rear fenders), I'd rather be safe than stranded.

Jackelope May-15th-2007 01:38 PM

^ i changed mine not too long ago, very dirty. i know, should have wrote a how-to.

_Kansei_ May-15th-2007 01:46 PM

Since no one else mentioned it in this thread.. Alejo, you do know that there are separate how-to and tech article subforums of this forum, right? As of right now this main forum is for requests, but it'll be reorganized to make the actual how-tos easier to get to soon :) .. check the how-to subforum though, there's actually quite a few in there. I've only cleaned up the first page of it, so beware of pages 2 and 3, I give no warranties on their contents ;)

The one I did wasn't too bad, some discoloration but that is to be expected. I made sure the tank was low so I could see the bottom, it was pretty clean as well. Guess we have decent gas in my area.

Anyway, if no one beats me to it I'll post one up when I get home. I could do the write-up now, but as we all know, it would be WWP.
