How does a HID light bulb looks and works?

I have seen here and in many other sites questions and wrong ideas about the way that an HID bulb works . So to clear all the questions and to stop people from buying normal halogen bulbs for 300 plus bucks here is a picture and a few links . The most common is the 9004 is the one you should use in the 1st gen protege

I have 6000k HIDs from extralights.com its a great kit and decent in price

I find Plasmaglow's 'HID' line of halogens to be awesome. They shine real white, and to me seem much brighter (but not blue) than most HIDs. See the difference compared to the fogs in the pic below?

For $40 bucks and a 10 year warranty, that's my choice, haha.
