Attn: People w/o front licence plate in CA
 

I recently got pulled over for a little speeding on the highway. In addition to the speeding ticket, the officer mentioned to me about not having the front licence plate, which I "thought" was a warning, though it did not appear to be a warning on the actually citation letter.

" " Mechanical/Registration/Licence Violations will be dismissed if proof of correct and $10.00 is received by the due date. The Sheriff's department will also charge a seperate fee for inspecting a vehicle"
***Additional bail will be due if you are unable to provide proof of correction. "

Anyway, so there, I have to actually put on my front licence plate, and drive to a near sheriff department for the proof of correction.
In addition, consider I'm a full time college student, it is rather hard to find time to drive it to sheriff department for inspection.

Lastly, my advice is...to avoid the hassel, put on the front plate :(

i got a fix it ticket on my dirt bike one time:eek: i had to take it to the CHP to get it inspect and pay the $10 too. hehe, when i had to start my bike up the cop was standing real close to the silencer, i blew two stoke oil and smoke in his face!!!:D :D

my philosophy is that you don't need to give cops ANY reason to pull you over. no rice boy colored lights, missing plates, tint, too loud, etc. everyone that i know that has gotten a DUI got pulled over for "something else".

Ya, I had a lot of hesitation before I took the front licence plate off, but after hearing from so many people that most of cops don't care, I decide to take it off. Well, I guessing I'm putting it back on now~
Really, now I have to find my up to date registration card before I take it in for proof of inspection. :/

Actually, down here in SoCal they started enforcing this "law" once the stoplight cameras were installed. hhmmm.... I guess tax dollars just aren't enough for them.

knock on wood.....in 13 years, i have NEVER installed my front plate....been "ASKED" to put it on, but never cited. I have it in the trunk just in case :)

Yeah, this happened to my roomate when he had his Celica. It made me laugh, because I don't think it is really that big of a deal?? Just put it on, get a little chrome around it and finally, keep it clean! The car can still look good....trust me.
Anyways, all he got was a fix-it ticket. Don't think he had to pay the $10. He got pulled down in SD, and got it fixed up here in the Yay. Guess I'll be rockin' the front plate, when it comes in...

Whenever I go to San Diego COPS will make U-turns and chase after me for no front plate and the side windows tinted so dark they can't see in. Soon as the see my Arizona plate they just pull over to the curb and stop. This never fails, every time im there.

Well, everyone here all have different experiences and encounter different type of cops. Unfortunately I happen to encounter a cop with bad attitude. So, like I mentioned above, anyone here that are thinking about taking the front licence plate off, think 2nd before taking it off.

In addition, the cop that pulled me over not only gave me a ticket regard the front licence plate, and speeding ticket, but he also "took a look" at my height of my car, how much I lowered it :/

keep the bracket plate and hardware in the car. while hes writing ticket put it on, then have him sign it off while hes there.

SORRY TO HEAR YOU GOT TAGGED , I WILL NEVER PUT ON THE FRONT PLATE . IT JUST TOTALLY TAKES AWAY FROM A CLEAN SPORTY LOOK. IT MAKES A CLEAN CAR LOOK SO K-MART. MOM AND POP,GRANDMA & GRANDPA . I WAS JUST PULLED OVER A FEW WEEKS AGO, I WAS WINDING OUT MY CAR AND DOWN SHIFTING THROUGH A NICE NEIGHBORHOOD AND MY EXHAUST IS LOUD. THE OFFICER DIDNT CATCH ME SPEEDING SO HE PULLED ME OVER FOR A LOUD EXHAUST. I APOLLAGIZED AND TOLD HIM I HAVE A INSERT TO QUIOT IT DOWN HOWEVER THE CAR RUNS ALOT BETTER WITH IT OUT . HE CUT ME LOOSE I SAID THANK YOU . LUCKY, YEA I THINK SO. HE DIDNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT NO FRONT PLATE ,AND I HAVE NEVER HAD A FRONT PLATE ON ANY CAR OR TRUCK SINCE 1978 . ANYWAY THANKS FOR THE REMINDER THAT WEREVER YOU GO, WATCH OUT ! OR THE PO-LEES GONNA GETCHA .:eek:

i've had an "on the spot" smog check once. The officer thought my cat was hollow. no ticket, but an hour of my time wasted. He also checked my ride height, but i mean come on, a 1" drop, while others are peeling up lane domes...whatever, bust out your tape measure and go for it....

Also, a Looooong time ago i had a europeon style plate made up to match my CA plate, on 2 seperate occasions, once was just casual in a parkinglot, but the officers both said, it was ok with them and thought it was rather clever. One was a car enthusiast and actually took the idea with him....mmmmm i opted not to ask for the credit :D

i got a fix-it ticket in SD (for tint), and i just found a cop to write it off (actually it was my uncle's friend, so i actually didn't take the tint off ;) ) but i'm sure you don't have to drive around looking for a sheriff's department. any cop off the street should work. also, the "inspection" just means that the cop has to see the license plate on the car, and then they should just sign it off.

I just p/u our P5 a few days ago, so no plates yet. I removed the bracket as it looks much cleaner without it. It look like the plates will block the air flow considerably, so I'll probably carry it in the car in case we get stopped. They are installing red light cameras in many cities in Ca. so without the plate in front you can't be identified in the photo.:cool:
