ok, unless you NEED higher octane, like Jesse does, use regular gas and save yourself some money... the longer molecules in higher octane burn SLOWER than lower octane, so it takes longer till it completely combusts, and you ONLY need that if you are pinging... otherwise it is a waste of money IMO... I have some other posts on this topic so search or something if you want more about it from me
save your money and buy the gas thats made for your car (regular)

I use 87. Octane only resists preignition in high compression ratio, turbo or supercharged engines, it doesn't really make the engine run cleaner contrary to what gas companies say. (Correct me if I'm wrong). For the low compression ratio like the FS-ZE engine, it isn't necessary. Running high octane may een weaken the performance of some engines designed to run on regular fuel, the Honda Accord 3.0V6 is an example.

I use whatever is cheapest, which is usually (but not always) the 87 octane stuff.
On a trip last year to Iowa I ran across an area which sold 89 octane ethanol gas cheaper ten the regular 87 octane stuff, so I got a couple tankfuls of the "better stuff."

Protege Menace is right. Unless your engine has the compression, advanced timing or forced induction to make it necessary, there's no reason to use higher octane fuel because it does burn somewhat slower. You probably won't notice a big loss though. When you bolt that turbo kit on though be prepared to step up to premium. Any pre-ignition under boost will destroy factory pistons in a VERY short time.
