what does turning off headlights mean?

one night this guy in a toyota 4runner comes up really fast and honks me, his horn is probably changed cause it makes a funny sound like the sound in road runner...
so I speed up and he follows then when we reach the corner i keep going and I notice that he dropped behind so I wait for him before the next corner and then we go at it again and again he doesn't keep up so then I just slow down after the corner and pull to the slow lane and he comes up next to me and then turns off his headlights for about 5 secs then turns them on again.... ??

what does turning off headlights mean??

Maybe he wanted you to get out of his way?? In LA drivers do everything, none of it makes sense

I was in the lane next to him....
it would have been funny if he crashed though cause the 110 freeway is pretty windy...

Maybe you had your gascap open or forgot to turn on your headlights? I've accidentaly just turned on my parking lights before... it becomes apparent when you get into an area unlit though.

I think chastan is right your headlights were probably off, and he was trying to let you know but you kept speeding away. I'm assuming you know what it means when someone going in the opposite direction flashes his high beams or turns his headlights on and off

Yeah, god knows what he meant. For example I used to screw with people on the highway at night all the time. If there were only a few cars around, I would turn off my lights completely and change lanes, and then turn my lights back on. I did it at a safe distance of course, just far enough so they might notice.
