K&N Dropin

Does anyone have a dyno of the K&N Drop-in filter vs the stock filter?

well, i dont think anyone ever compare a k-n vs stock-paper on a dyno cuzz you dont get much more hp. But as far as i know, a k-n filtercharger (drop-in) is really a lot more efficient. Every car should have one, but it isnt as quiet as the paper one.

11.2? That seems high to me. I have one in my P5 and while it might have added something, it doesn't seem like that much...

You have good reason to doubt that. There's no way adding only a drop in filter will add 11.2 hp. I think you could realistically expect closer to 1-2 hp at the wheels. Plus the piece of mind that you are filtering the air in your car much better and thus keeping it healthier

To get an extra 11 hp you would have to do something much more drastic like new camshafts or exhaust header(not available for p5, yet).

I did use K@N drop-in in my Focus and it did not make a whole lot of difference. It was bearly noticible (maybe a gain of 1 hp).
Full CAI system is a different story.
Now I'm a P5 owner and I want to get some better intake for it, but I want CAI not a metal pipe kind.
I hope that aftermarket for P5 will get better soon.

Does P5 use the same air box as 2001 2.0Protege?
S&B makes better drop-in than K&N, it uses the same technology as K&N but it gets much better flow, it's not so dense. I clearly felt the difference on my Focus.

I find it hard to believe you noticed a difference with just a filter. And I also doubt just a filter will add 1-2 HP at the wheels. Bosals Cat-Back exhaust adds 5 HP to the wheels. That is confirmed from their dyno. You wont feel a gain, you might here the vacuum when you turn the car off. I'm not sure what the CAI for our cars add HP wise but I cant see it being over 3 at the crank. You should get better mileage with a k&n dropin filter.

Cotton filters do not add any restriction to air flow-I had tested them on different dyno runs. 2 liter protege with no air filter has +1,5 hp and 1 lb/ft of torgue at the wheels and much smoother power curve. On another occasion I got no change in power whether with cone cotton filter or without it.

I would go for cone filter with 3" to 2,5 " adapter bolted onto MAF-same $, but probaly little better results than flat filter in the airbox
