top speed of Protege 2.0 4dr?
 

Anyone know what the top speed of the protege sedan is? Pretty new car so far so we don't really want to push it. . .yet. ANyway I see that the p5 is limited to either 118 or 132. Should the p4 be a little better aerodynamically? Maybe a bit faster? I know the 5th g is quite small so the revs are what will probably limit it.

According to Car and Driver, which actually tests cars top speed with a calibrated radar gun (speedos and tachs aren't that accurate), says the P5 will do 118, and the MP3 will do 120. The '00 Protege ES had a 112 mph speed limiter (again, according to C+D). Assuming the '02 ES doesn't have a speed limiter, it should be able to match the MP3, as it's geared shorter (3%) which would allow it to get closer to it's HP peak in 5th.

At 120mph, the MP3 would be turning about 5250 rpm, where an ES would be at 5400rpm, closer to its power peak. I'm guessing that the MP3s HP advantage is at higher RPMs, which is why I think top speed shoud be similar. Also, with the skinnier tires, and smaller rear wing, but a higher drag front end, drag should be a wash between the MP3 and ES.

OF course, just IMHO.

Ive had my 2.0 ES GT upto, according to speedo just shy of 220 kmph. now that was stock rubber, with a modded intake. I never came upto a governor, the car just seemed to run out of steam up there. the head wind just stopped it from climbing further.

Can you say speedometer error? I knew you could.:D 220 kph = 136 mph. Into a headwind!

220 kph, assuming the Canadian ES is geared the same as the US ES, would be a little over 6100 rpm (not that the tachometer is known to be too accurate). I could believe that speed with a turbo, or maybe even the FS-ZE, but with an essentially stock 2.0, eh, NOT.

But nice to know that, at least in Canada, there is no speed limiter.

off the speedo, strained 195kph. Seemed resonable... nothing left though.

The rev limiter cuts out at 7100 rpm. so i could have theorethically driven upto the redline in 5th. I think my speedo may have been 8-10 off at most but when i had my new rubber put on and had it reset, it was dead on at 60 mph. and i mean drag limited, not a headwind. that was my mistake. i apologize. and remember this took a huge straightaway to accomplish. But as i said, it never cut out

I was actually racing a lebarron ...believe it or not.... and he was keeping up....till i hit 5th gear...:D ...then i just kept flying....that's on plain all seasons..l think they were Hankook...anyways...she just kept climbing....and it was 2 am so no traffic......the only reason i didn't try to puch her more was b/c i was going past an area where there are normally cops....all this on a stock (well maintained ) 92 Protege SE SOHC....

Screw that-they list same 10.4 sec 0-100 km/h for 2,0 liter 626 which weighs a lot more with less hp and torgue.

top speed on a MP5 is 118??? I have had mine up to 105 mph so far, and if memory serves...I still had a bit of pedal left...(I didn't have it to the floor):bt:

so they say... it should be drag limited to that...

got my P5 up to 105MPH or 170KM/H....had a bit of steam left, and i had a pasenger too, haven't tried beating it cause its winter time here

On a recent trip from DC to OH with my girlfriend, two guys in a lowered Honda accord kept speeding up and slowing down. :D Since my protégé ES was new but I did install a K&N filter, I was curious to see what the little zoom-zoom could really do(by the way it is a 5sp) :bt: To my surprise and delight the little car has some bite to it....I got it to 120mph when I decided it was time to slow down, and let the accord catch-up :rolleyes: they sure didn't look happy. My girlfriend was amazed that the protégé rode like it was going 65 when it was actually traveling @ 120
