i'm just starting out and any tips would be apreciated by me to.

TaiMaiShu April-18th-2004 07:31 PM

take it to 6500 if youre not satisfied. you'll be fine.

kenspro May-11th-2004 08:46 AM

If it redlines at 6000rpm the nwouldnt 6500rpm be over revving a little bit?? and if that is the case i thought that was bad and could
blow your engine..???

midnightblue97 May-11th-2004 09:23 AM

The only azda 4 cylinder engine that is an interference fit is the F2. You can rev right to fuel cut off and not really worry about valve float hurting you.

TaiMaiShu May-12th-2004 10:07 PM

before the swap (dx) i would take it up to 6k in first, then to 6500 in 2nd, and the same with third. then shut it down. it seems to give you a little extra "push" after the shift instead of that feeling of bogging" and then engaging. but it always worked out best that way. well, for me. i was always afraid of taking it past 6500

94protolx May-14th-2004 10:32 PM

when I use to run my 94 lx I would take it to I think the fuel cut is at like 7400 rpm and the redline's at 7 in all gears but 5th

Mica94Pro May-14th-2004 11:22 PM

when i race i take my rpm to 6000 but after that your reving for nothing cause your not in the torque range ( you can feel this when shifting form 2nd to 3rd ) and by overreving your lossing speed

Its actually about 7200 RPM.
Our tachs are slightly inaccurate. Mine is the same way.

racing tips.......
roll up ur window
(if the race is scheduled) lower down the front tire pressure.
turn off all the accesories even the radio.
put the vent to hot but dont turn on ur fan
launched at 3,500 rpm
shift at ur redline, there's no point of going all the way till u hit the fuel cut off ( u'll loose time by doing that) and hp curb line drops after redline. ( on some cars)

hope this helps...

protegespeed May-16th-2004 10:02 PM

thanks a lot man, but did u mean by launched at 3,500 rpm?

TRACEY ROWE May-18th-2004 11:43 PM

hey, i launch my car NOW at about 2500rpms. does just as good as 3500rpms. but i go to 7500rpms in 1st. 2nd is 6000rpms. then i hold 3rd to the winners lane.:shift:

The FS-DE redlines at 6500.
I'd imagine that fuel cutoff is no more than 7000.

my bad, i had to go look to be sure, and it does redline at 7000rpms. i mean it starts going crazy at 7000rpms. it use to be 6500rpms, then i put that cam in, so now its 7000rpms. thanks for see my mistake. :wee:

cool

There is one more thing. when shifting from 1st to second to third... only push the clutch in a little tiny but. On my protege i only have to push it in about a inch and it wont grind the gears. doing that helps keep the revs high and it doesnt jerk as mich when ingaging the next gear which makes the car lose some momentum.

would that work on the 1st gen?

ricerocket97 June-18th-2004 12:53 AM

it will work on any car, as long as you know whare the catchpoint is push the clutch into that point and shift.

pr5guy June-19th-2004 07:34 PM

how bout u guys come up here to LI and show what the p5 is made of to some of these kids up here... i dont have enough mods yet to really do too much and im the only mazda in my car club, i need some backup!

Anarchistchiken July-2nd-2004 11:01 AM

Heres a tip; drag racing is pointless. Go autocrossing or break into a local racetrack some night. That's the only way to have real fun in our cars.

Roddimus Prime July-2nd-2004 11:08 AM

I like drag racining in my P5. While I'm not fast(er) than most by any means I do catch a lot of faster cars off guard and show them my taillights on occassion.

For instance: I went to the track and on my first pass ran a 10.4s 1/8th. During the course of the night 2 S14's kept going at it and got slower and slwoer to the point where when I ran one of them (the faster of the two) I ran a 10.5s and he ran a 10.7s....in his RWD 2.4(I think).

Practice makes perfect no matter what you do.

Anarchistchiken July-2nd-2004 11:16 AM

Not real s-14's? They're faster than that I thought. They are 2.4's though.

Roddimus Prime July-2nd-2004 11:17 AM

these were the last model 240's sold here...with the cool sleek lookng headlights...yeah the guys couldn't drive/launch for the life of them....experience beat out power.
