[QUOTE=Rac3rX;367864]The 2.3L Engine is great.

Owning a Protege, I wanna be able to keep up with them, stock the Mazda3 runs arround 16.4 STOCK in the 1/4 (Taken from R&T), and with intake/exhaust they do high 15's.

OK, first off, this is how false information gets around. Please research things that have a reliable source behind them. Here is C/D's true times on the Mazda 3 with a 2.3, 5 spd
C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 7.3 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 21.5 sec
Street start, 5–60 mph: 8.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 15.8 sec @ 88 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 118 mph
Braking, 70–0 mph: 168 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.85 g

Every reliable source I have seen has it around 15.7-15.8 quarter mile.
Wheels: 17x7-in. Racing Hart
Tires: 215/45ZR-17 Bridgestone Potenza RE040
Performance
Acceleration
0-30 mph: 2.8 sec.
0-60 mph: 7.6 sec.
30-50 mph: 2.9 sec
50-70 mph: 4.1 sec.
Quarter Mile time: 15.5 sec. @ 89.4 mph

The Mazdaspeed protege hits it in around 15.4-15.5 depending on sources. So unless you have some decent mods on your regular protege, your going to get a spanking. With 10 hp difference and about 3/10ths in the quartermile, the 3 has a better run with a Mazdaspeed than a regular protege. So to say it is sluggish is nonsense. In fact it beat all equal competition from 0-30, 0-60, and QM. It has strong torque numbers for a small motor too.
