Protege vs. Accord V6

Does anyone know if any of the 3rd generation
Protege's can put up a decent race against a
2001 Honda Accord 4-Door V6?
Just wondering.

s0uth69side January-24th-2003 12:38 PM

I'm asking because my brother just bought a
2001 that's an auto. It has MAD power to be
an automatic. It almost throws you in the back seat if your not holding on.:D

acidbbg1 January-24th-2003 12:46 PM

The accord V6 will win w/ out a doubt....

Now if it was a 4 banger accord vs. 4 banger protge..than it would be close!

Alright. Thanks.
Gah, I would give my left nut to have that car.
With a few mods added to it, it would be hella
fast. Wouldnt even need NOS or turbo.:)

The other day I was eating at an outside restaraunt when some guy in a V6 Accord went by FLYING. His car sounded so sweet that I'm sure he had somthin' going on under that hood!(intake? headers? A SYMPHONY?) I hate to admit it, but your brother will smoke your(and my) P5.

eggynatey January-24th-2003 12:56 PM

Maybe a Mazdaspeed Protege would keep up...

s0uth69side January-24th-2003 12:58 PM

Yeah, his is all stock. He wants to get a spoiler for it.
I told him not to fuck it up and make it look like all
the other ricers that own Hondas. I think he's just
gonna order a factory spoiler, which will probally make
it look best. Me thinks.:D

funkdaddysmack January-24th-2003 01:55 PM

Eh, I dunno how fast they are... I used to hang out on maxima.org, and there's a lot of rivalrly between the maxima and the accord v6. The last model accord v6 only came in auto form, and even with heavy mods (i/h/e/y-pipe/cam gears/cams) the accord coupes were in very high 14s/low 15s.

I'm not sure how a heavier sedan, stock would do. It should still beat a protege pretty easily, though.

You want a fast family car on the cheap, buy a maxima. A '95-'99 maxima 5-spd can run in the 14s bone stock. C&D did a review of it in '95 when they were redesigned (4th gens) and they ran I think a 15.1 or something, which was quicker than the same year Mustang GT they tested. Quite funny :) The '02 and '03 maximas I've heard as low as 14.2 BONE STOCK! The only bad thing about the Maxs are they have low resale value for some reason, and the rear suspension is lame.

The real problem with the Hondas is...they don't have any torque!

A good launch will get them right off the bat. A V6 would end up overtaking a P5, but a 4-banger won't! (been there, done that-too many times to count):D

Perhaps she means the Civic Si?

Or better yet... the Celica GT-S

My friend has a '02 GT-S... You are f'in right, they are torqueless... once it hits 6500 and lift kicks in, it pulls real nice though

However, now he has a kazuma exhaust... Added quite a bit of power, it pulls like mad up top now... Too bad it's the loudest (street legal) car I've ever heard.

From now on, can we cut the myths?

Only after you see them on the dyno...

I say to my Accord buddies..."race ya uphill!":D :bigthumb:

i have a 2002 protege

my mother owns a 2000 v-6 accord and I've been driving it for 3 weeks while my Pro is in the shop

DO NOT RACE THE ACCORD. IT IS FAST. VERY FAST

i friggin Love driving the accord. its a 3.0L and its like driving a Vette for me.

leungwingkei January-25th-2003 01:27 AM

Accords' have torque. It's the Civics that are relatively not as torque as the Proteges. My mom has a Camry I4, my brother drives it now, and it pulls hard. I never managed to beat it in the Pro5.

leungwingkei January-25th-2003 01:33 AM

Don't underestimate the power of large cars. Many people (I'm not referring to anyone in particular), think because they drive a smaller car they have a lightweight advantage, therefore they will be faster. What they don't realize is that their power to weight ratio is still much less than larger cars.

I saw a Lexus LS430, yup, a grandpa's car. floored from a stoplight once, and it was fast, faster than even a Integra Type R. The only way a Type R can launch faster than the LS430 is if it's a clutch drop launch done by a skiiled driver. The LS430 is auto.

Given the same launch technique, it may even be quicker than a WRX.

The Accord and Camry engines have a long lifetime along which for the design to be refined... even my 1990 Camry was damn smooth, and got 35mpg.

leungwingkei January-25th-2003 12:53 PM

Yesyes, it is the same engine. It's a highly durable unit, with lots of low end torque and mid range punch. I thought you got a turbo MR2 Pseudo. Btw what year is your MR2?

sweetprotege93 January-28th-2003 08:25 AM

Yeah those Accord V6s arn't too bad when it comes to speed. I remember when my mom just got her 2001 Mustang V6 5-speed and she let me drive it around one night... bad idea:(. This dude with a '99 Accord V6 with an intake, computer chip, and a full dual exhaust asked if I wanted to race. The first time we raced I missed 2nd gear, because I wasn't used to the car, and redlined it pretty bad:shift:. I was really pissed at myself. Well I had to race him again... so I raced him at the same spot at a roll and he beat me fairly easily. Then when we pulled off somewhere he enthusiastically announced..."and that's without the chip!!" Oh well no big deal to me. Btw... I really like how those newer Mustangs drive. I give the V6 Mustang more credit than most people would. It's funny because just the other night my friend with the '97 Civic EX wanted to race me again... We've raced before when he didn't have his exhaust. So when my mom let me take the car out last night we didn't officially race but when we got on the ramp to get on highway 49 we both gunned it (he was in front of me) and I stayed on his bumper very easily! I'm just trying to pass some time before me and my dad get my Pro done! Can't wait to here that sweet turbo!:bigthumb:

Get this

I was at a meet one night and a v6 mustang and a v6 accord raced
accord won

but then
dude in a 1986 gti 1.8 16 valve
with some under the hood tricks (all motor) no nitro

beat the mustang and the accord

and to add to it the accord was auto and mustang was standard

gti was also standard
I was there I saw it and the gti won
no driver errors

My buddy has an '88 gti, all motor, getting around 250hp to the wheel. A 13s car. That thing is sweet too. The last race I seen him win was against a supercharged Avenger V6 and it was no match.

Depending on the year of the Mustang, the V6 is a DOG of an engine. It's like 150hp, and the cars weighed like 3300lbs or something crazy like that. '99 and up I think the V6s put out about 190, they are much quicker.

I'm not suprised that a GTI could whip them. They're little pocket rockets, even the older ones. He'd only have to be running high 14s to beat both the accord and mustang, maybe even a tad slower.

protege can win!

the only way a protege can win is if it updates to a stronger engine. Damn i seen one that has 180hp. ITs a v6 too. DAmn add an intake and some other stuff it will be a killer. SO PROTEGE CAN BEAT A HONDA!!
